I was expecting an improvement, when he joined us but nothing remotely on this scale, pity he doesn't join in with the on pitch celebrations, but there again, he can't wait to get back to the dressing room, to start the preparations for the Brentford match, what a bloke.

Eddie Howe was schooled today by The Master.

Was well impressed with Rio Ferdinand praise for Unai, liked his comment that with Moreno (an Emery signing), the board/owners should back him to the hilt with whomever he identifies next.

We all know the board/owners will definitely do so.

Pundits are starting to realise that he's an exceptional coach, and from Unai's comments and general demeanor, although I'm sure there will be offers from top Clubs worldwide, I just cannot see him leaving until he's achieved whatever he promised the board/owners when he agreed to join us.

Exciting times ahead, at last.

I reckon we're about the perfect club for him, big enough (and rich enough) to give him everything he needs but without the ludicrous expectations that saw him sacked by Arsenal and happy to walk away from PSG. I think he'll be with us for a good while.

It feels similar to when Graham Taylor was here. He instils confidence that he has it all in hand, knows what he is doing and everything will be grand.

I love this man.

Aston Villa’s determination to invest in Unai Emery is also likely to mean changes being made to the training ground, including the addition of an annexe so players can stay overnight.

Wow that's next-level dedication.

Can you imagine what Emery would have thought of Gabby? Fucking hell.

I think it might have been under MoN but the night before the home games, he used to have the team stop in the Marriot at 5-ways. This sounds like the next step including allowing the players to still have proper treatment  if needed as well.

I think Ashley Young is the perfect role model as what can be achieved if you take it seriously

We’ve got the best coach we’ve had for a very, very long time. If he’s given the money in the summer this great club will wake up. He’s a genius tactically as he proved once again today.
Head and shoulders about Howe, they ain’t even on the same planet.

I made this post in the after match thread but to me, it’s critical to what we’re doing and where we’re going.

In the first three matches in February, we shipped 11 goals. Leicester, Arsenal and Man City. 2 of those games were almost to be expected (Arsenal and Man City) but we did hold out until injury time v Arsenal.

However, since that game - we are now unbeaten in 8 games. But most importantly to me is that we have only conceded 2 goals. One was a penalty and the other was a great goal from Barnes.

I have no idea what changed in that time - I assume that Emery found the weakness and resolved it along with his coaching team? Or the confidence increased along with the defensive understanding? Or that we finally started to get our fitness levels and perfect our push? This has coincided with a meteoric change in form for Watkins who now is turning into the complete striker that many of us never thought he would be. His control and shooting and touch have improved immeasurably.

I am sure a lot of this has come down to the magic touch of Emery being able to get the very best of our team. But our defence is now looking almighty again.

Long may this continue - tonight, for the first time in a long time, I am a very very happy Villa fan. We are progressing. Next season, we are going to be a team to watch.

We’ve had so many false dawns over the years, but this guy…. this guy is a different level.
The improvement in every single player’s ability and performances, along with the quality of football we’re witnessing is nothing short of a minor miracle in such a short space of time.

Today was mesmerising. We have a bloody excellent manager at the helm now and we’re in for the ride of our lives!

So interesting to hear Ollie on his MOTD interview just now say that he's not running channels, he's not particularly battling centre-backs, he's focusing on timing his runs, on finding space, all that.

The MOTD panel then looked at how our midfield moves, and you can just see how alert and dynamic they are, how well they know what their movements are.

What this guy's done with us is near-unbelievable.

I know I might have to wait twenty years for his autobiography, but I’d be fascinated to learn if he knew when he took over that this squad was capable of the performances we’re seeing.
