Just for clarity, Rory, by qualification route I didn't mean the English coefficient, I meant that it was easier* to get clubs like Sevilla and Villarreal into a qualifying place in their league than it will be with us.

*almost certainly not actually easy. A bit less really, really difficult, mebbe?

Micah Richards got it right on Motd. Everyone seems to know what they are meant to be doing, there's a bit of clarity. He's improved so many of them as well. Mings for example has hardly put a foot wrong since Emery came in. The money we paid Villarreal looks a snip at rhe moment.

It seems to be flying under the radar in the news that Emery is a total fucking genius who has completely transformed what looked relegation fodder.

'Only' 15 games, but a win percentage of 60%.

As somebody (apologies, I can't remember who) said earlier, something serious is happening.

Oh but you'll remember the bloody caravan alright

Small sample size of course but that must be the highest win percentage of any Villa manager.

George Ramsay did rather well a while ago. 1895/96 winning 20 from 30, I would call that about 66%. And then 21 out of 30 the following season.

He’s doing amazing stuff - hopefully he gets the support he needs from our rich owners and builds something special.  It feels that he could do a 5 year plus stint here.

It seems like the perfect fit and really could work for him as well as us.  In Spain the challenge was keeping hold of his top players.  In PSG and Arsenal it was the need for instant success.  With us we could have the patience and the financial might to allow him to completely transform the club

£5m wasn't it? An absolute fucking snip in the context of Premier League football.

Emery has bought so much in a short space of time to the Villa team

Results, Goals, tactical masterpieces, fluid formations, superb use of subs, obsessive analysis, all these things and more

But the key for me and the most important thing where all these things flow from is the improvement in individual players

Gerrards biggest fault was that not a single player played to anything like full form for him,
Whereas under Emery - Martinez, Mings, Konsa, Luiz,  McGinn, Ramsey, Buendia, and probably most of all Watkins have all improved and far better players under him
That’s quite unbelievable really and for me the main reason we have climbed the table

I’ve never really understood the thing about being a manager that doesn’t coach,
But we have a top coach now and the whole team are buying into it
I’ve waited a long time for a foreign coach with a tactical brain, I’m hoping he will bring a golden era for my kids sake more than mine

All good points John. The other thing I’d is the trusted coaching staff he brought along with him. I think there was 8 or 9 who all know him or are familiar with his expectations, tactics and style of play. They are starting to reinforce those same disciplines across the club. So it’s it just the manager but the players are getting constant and consistent messaging. It must be enjoyable to go to work at the club right because the players can see the hard work is starting to pay off. Nobody is naive to think we will win every game or have made it. But there is a clear vision and direction that everyone is buying into.

I was using the table on wikipedia which puts Emery a smidge ahead of Ramsay but as we know wikipedia isn't infallible.
