Haha no just pissed and catching up on todays events. The guy is class and shows just what a decent (or even half decent) manager can do.
Players written off, now performing, being able to respond tactically to match situations. Sounds like basic stuff - but makes such a difference.

I might be getting a little soft but I hope Gerrard learns from this. Being a “name” guarantees you nothing. It is all about dedication to the craft. Long hours, being humble, education, teaching, acknowledging failure, learning from the mistakes. Emery didn’t just arrive at the top. He earned it.

I could very well be being harsh but I just don't get 'humble' from him. I know you're not applying that to him and you're just stating what you need. My instinct is that he is a man who would be very frustrated with players just not being good enough, like he was, he was able to carry teams and it must be annoying to see some players just not being able to do it to that level. Emery was the opposite and in turn sounds like he studied the game rather than just being the best out there. My dad was a Liverpool fan so I've watched a lot of Gerrard and he was some f**king player. Not for England, mind, although he's not alone there.

There's really no fluke as to how Emery can get Sevilla winning the europa league and also winning it with Villareal and then getting them to SF of CL a year later, he is that good as a coach.

Given time it's very possible he can hit the same heights here, already in six months we've seen massive improvement back to front and we're very professional at seeing out games when in the league which is critical if we want to challenge next season.

I've said for decades for some reason as a club we've always been hesitant in going after top level managers and just settling for reasonable British ones like O'Neill who got consistent results but was parochial in his style of play and transfers.

It's held us back while we scratch our heads and wonder how likes of Spurs are getting so far ahead appointing guys like Pochettino and Conte.

Now we've done it ourselves and I firmly believe this time next year we'll be above likes of Spurs in the league. Already this season we could be above Liverpool and Chelsea come the end so that's a terrific sell to 2-3 new signings that could elevate us further.

It’s been said before but again, you cannot underestimate the job Emery has done, it is a  quite remarkable turnaround. That dark night at Fulham in October I thought we were done for and now we’re sitting in the top half with an outside chance of Europe. Incredible. What a difference a hugely competent coach makes.

His successes in Europe were only allowed him in the first place because of an easier qualification route. As I see it his biggest hurdle here is the massive concentration already of money (and glamour?) at seven other clubs.

But, and as a Villa fan I think it's a colossal 'but', it does present the real probability that the Cups are our best way in, at least in the short term. I mean, me, personally, would I be satisfied with a top-8 finish and a successful trip to Wembley season after season? You f***ing betcha I would!

No disrespect, but I don't think that makes sense.

His success is not measured just by qualifying for these tournaments but by his teams' performances in them.

England always (coincidentally) get the easiest of qualification routes, but they haven't won the Euro's.

I acknowledge you weren't making an anti-Emery point, so I'll stop there, but the man's career record suggests he owes little to luck, and more to his own hard work and ability.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I think the man's one of the very best on the planet right now and his record speaks volumes for him. I am loving this ride and don't wanna ever get off! But as the saying goes, you've got to be in it to win it. And I think his best bet of winning a European pot with us is getting there by winning a domestic pot first. It's his forte, Cup football. I'm not going to be the one to try to tell him otherwise.
