I really enjoyed that performance and control today. I like the philosophy. I. Just wish more had the patience and faith.

There were a few around me yelling at the players to 'just get it forward' and 'clear it' and groa s when Martinez played it short to. Mings or Konsa.

It's the way we're going to play, and in the most part it's bloody working.

Martinez getting the Holte to calm down was good, shows the players have belief too. I'm in.

It’s a great point and it will require a cultural evolution on our part as a fan base. We’re talking about learning to accept a new style of football whilst supporting the team playing it at the same time.

It is a good point. I thought the holte was a little subdued in the 1st half and part of that i think is that we are playing a much more controlled patient game, rather than the blood and thunder that tends to get us tub thumping. But there were signs of the supporters getting with it, there were a few signs of supporters appreciating little interplays at the back between Konsa, Mings and Cash. We’ll get there along with the team. The manager is the real deal and i honestly think we’ll win something next year.

I did read somewhere that "effective (sports-) teams is not so much about individual qualities as it is to get the individual players to belive in the strategy and to understand the role they are given and do their with disiplin to help the team -ish ". Relevant to the Emery approach and also his strategy have pleasant to watch qualities.

Unai's approach is alien to me having watched us for so many years. No throwing the system out of the window if a couple of results go against us. A system that all the players know and buy into. A system that is clearly working. A system that will be understood by any players we hope to sign. For once in a long time I believe we don't have a flash in the pan manager. A manager that takes the longer term view. Fuck I am even thinking of changing my lifestyle !! At 62 cutting down on fags and alcohol so I can be at that champion leagues final with my daughter when unai gets us there. VTID.

I've followed the villa since around 92, and I don't think i've had more faith in a manager than i now have in Unai (the MON days were great for a while but there was always the underlying grumble). I genuinely think that if we're not successful with him in charge then it'll never happen.

Do you sit near the back row of block M4 in the Doug Ellis? I’ve not heard that much moaning since stumbling onto Pornhub.

This week's news that Ethical Capital Partners had acquired Pornhub piqued my interest as well.

I get the strategy and I'm loving becoming a possession-based team but it didnt stop me nearly having a Coronary when McGinn played a blind ball to Konsa that was close to being messed up.

And all this with pretty much the identical squad that Gerrard had, and that looked so abject and devoid of ideas. It’s hard to believe frankly how rapidly he’s gotten us looking so much better.

This really is the start of something special.

It's all gone very much under the radar as well.   I heard Sam Matterface on the radio the other day and couldn't believe the bone headed rubbish he was spouting.

"They were never in any relegation trouble under Gerrard"

"Villa fans have been disappointed with Emery.
He hasnt improved anything at Villa "

"They're still a terrible side"

Emery isn't without his faults (still felt he should have made more of an effort in the cups), but you certainly can't question the difference he's made in the table.  Only Gerrard wasting a kind run of fixtures has prevented us really muscling our way in

It’s called panic. Panic that we may cause their favourite’s a bit of trouble in the seasons to come. They wouldn’t mention us if we weren’t a threat.

He hasn’t improved anything at Villa apart from, you know, absolutely everything.

I'd never heard of Sam Matterface before.

A quick look on Google, and yep, he's a wanker.

Good sign that after a dreadful performance at Man City that we have taken 10 points from the next 4 games since. Good test v Chelsea coming up. We do need players back urgently though. Chambers as our first midfield sub just shows how weak our bench is.

I'm commentary yesterday, he actually said how winferful it was that Man Utd were coming back form losing against Fulham and that Man City had thrashed. Burnley the day before.

ITV and BBC are worse than Sky.

Apologies if this has been posted already but as well as featuring 3 Villa players in his team of the week Garth Crooks also offers this quietly withering assessment of Gerrard:  "It would appear Aston Villa now have a grown-up in charge and not a manager who was learning on the job."

Yeah, I spotted that this morning, surprisingly blunt, I thought, from someone as establishment / non-controversial as Crooks.

Garth's usual impeccable attention to detail:

"It was an impressive home win for Villa, who have been steadily climbing the table." We've been 11th since the first week of January! We've put a whole load of daylight between us and those below, but that's not climbing the table.

About Jacob Ramsey: "His confidence is sky high and he's scoring goals." Saturday was his first goal in four and a half months.
