Without slating his predecessor too much, I’d suggest we’re seeing the benefits of players having had a few months of actual coaching.

Nah, feel free to slate him.

When he can look me in the eyes I will, and with gusto!

Usually with the passing of time the vitriol against a sacked manager dissipates, but I think the utterly stark contrast with Gerrard's successor in this case is actually having the opposite effect.

Did your mate Beale tell you to say that?  What’s he up to nowadays?

He's currently third behind Lambert and O'Leary as the Villa managers I dislike the most

He's actually gone beyond both for me, they could at least both point to a lack of resouces. I thought De Matteo was a total fraud but again we were a fucking shambles at that point, but Gerrard had a solid base and was well supported, and even in a relatively short spell the longer he spent with the players the worse things got.

I'm not sure, Lambert was a knob but he was a knob under difficult circumstances where the fans still expected to compete in the top half but the club was being run to dodge relegation. Dolly was easily the worst, he had a free pass to just keep his head down and be in position to benefit from the takeover but he was such a smug twat he couldn't bring himself to do it.

Most of what Gerrard was guilty of was having no idea how shit he was at the job, I'm not sure that's enough for me to hate him, I don't think he's even my most disliked under NSWE, he'd have needed to speak significantly more dinosaur bullshit to topple Bruce.

McNeill, O'Leary and Gerrard. 3 massive wankers we've had as managers.

Palling up with members of the Kinehan cartel and hanging around McGregor's pub on Paddy's day are enough to have him top for me.

Isnt it interesting that no one mentions TSM in any hatred towards ex managers even though he came from the dark side. I spoke to him many times and he was a very decent and generous man, just pretty negative in his football philosophy.

I would imagine on the dark side he would have been hated if the roles were reversed

Yep, the blues connection was never a real negative, it was always more to do with him being a poor manager. But agreed, he always came across as a decent person.

He was an awful appointment when we hired him, pretty poor results wise and I was delighted when he left, but I have no ill feeling at all towards McLeish. Always seems a decent bloke.

I agree, no problem with McLeish.

If he'd have done a good job with us, the fact we'd taken him off Blues would have been a positive, not a negative.

I just couldn't stand the mindbendingly shit football. He always came across as a dignified, decent bloke though.

No ill feeling towards McLeish, although felt rather differently when we were at home to Bolton. Think I must have got it out of my system.

Yes, I was going to mention something of his associates in my orignal comment.
