If I'm honest, the job I have now I think a lot of people would give their right arm for. The pay is relatively good, my colleagues are sound, there's little pressure and I get to work from home.

And it's still absolutely shit.

Chris, it's not just about Sunday, it's about the rest of the seaon and beyond. 24 hours is not going to make much difference. Now go and have a lie down and put some of Woofles soothing jazz on.

Soothing and jazz don’t belong in the same sentence!

My first day at work after university was at a travel firm in Wigan. My boss offered to take me out for lunch, which consisted of a meat and potato pie (in a barm, aka a Wigan kebab), eaten while sat on a wall outside the pie shop.

In one of my recent jobs, I turned up for work on the first day, had an executive team meeting at the end of the day, at which my boss - the CEO - turned up absolutely arseholed.

A lot of people would have walked out and not come back. I wish I had.

Finally we have something musically we agree on!

Looks like none of our english players have made the 55 england World cup squad.

Dont think any of them have deserved it to be honest. This gives emery more time to spend with them at training. Lets be honestvits the like of watkins ings mings konsa etc that need the coaching
Where did you see that? There are only about 80 English qualified players in the the Prem League so that would be very disappointing?

That was a very common occurence when I worked on the IOM, where it was fair to say there was a teensy bit of a drinking culture. From mid November through to breaking up for Christmas I'd be permanently either drunk or hungover.

It's the same in Westminster. I often wonder whether we'd be better governed if the people in charge weren't shitfaced every afternoon. But then again, we can't have straightpegs making the decisions or it all might be even worse.

I'd have thought even if they only get two or three days training, it's probably more coaching they've had for a while so can only be a positive?

There's a 5-week break, clubs will undoubtedly need some match practice time. Dean Smith always liked these and his Norwich and other teams from Championship as well as the Premier league clubs will be having some of those friendly games behind closed doors to keep players match sharp.
I'd welcome them.

Making a bigger deal of it than is worth it.

I appreciate the point you're trying to make, I just think you're worrying about something which isn't worth being concerned about.

Anyway, I imagine his first day of work will be like it was for new people everywhere I have worked - give them the HR handbook, tell them to look at the company intranet, and hope that someone else tells them what to do in the meantime*

* this is a joke, obv

I hope he is having to spend several hours learning how not to click a suspicious email link and being informed of the safe way to lift a box.

There's a least half a day spent trying to work out how to register for the company benefits scheme to take advantage of the 2% discount at Oak Furnitureland.

The rest of the week is a basically a write off.

This is all giving me shudders. I can't believe I used to have a job. Jobs are absolutely shit.

Though, in the words of that daft vegan racist bellend Morrissey, some jobs are shitter than others. I think that's what it was anyway.

The ones where everything works and they expect you to hit the ground running are the ones which sound rough to me.
