Surprised the heir to the throne hasn't been able to push things along with the work permit.

Not taking training until Wednesday now.  I hope they got through a lot of theory behind closed doors today as with a game at the weekend he was already on an impossibly tight timescale.

That's tomorrow. They're not going to learn much in one day. Just try and chill out a little.
When you've got 5 days prep with the team before a massive game, losing one of them isn't ideal.  It's less ideal when you have no senior coaching staff and a new manager is trying to bed in a coaching team and get new ideas over to the squad.  Surely you can see that?  It's not about me chilling out really, it's just a bit dissapointing for the manager, particulalry as it's being caused by administration that the club expected to be sorted.

Even I think that is all a bit over-dramatic.

His work permit hasn't come through, it is illegal for him to hold training without it, and it's probably going to be here for tomorrow - we've no idea where the hold up has come from, either.

There is pretty much bugger all the new coaching team can do to have an impact before Saturday beyond choosing a team and telling them what they want to do. Three days on the training pitch is nothing like enough but then again, neither were four.

I think this is key.  We have an elite manager who we know can succeed.  We just have to trust he will get it right, even though it may well get worse before it gets better.
Agreed. Talk of European football by the end of next season seems a bit OTT to me.

I think to be in the MIX for European football at the end of next season, in that 6th-8th race, isn't unrealistic - especially given he'll have had three transfer windows and a full pre-season by that point.

I think THIS season we now have to look at as being a transition, and as long as we're not threatened by relegation, all I'll be looking for is signs that we're developing an on-pitch identity and style of play that excites the fans.  It's still the same core squad, so he's not going turn us in European contenders overnight, but if we're in mid to upper-mid table by the end of this season I'll be happy.

Next season though, with his ideas fully embedded? That's when I want to see us actually make some progress on the owner's vision of us becoming European regulars.  Since promotion - despite the intent - it's really just been about establishing ourselves as a premier league side again.  Now I want to see us take the next step on our upward trajectory.  If Eddie Howe can do it at Newcastle, then there is absolutely no reason why Unai can't do it here.

What is dramatic about what I said?

Making a bigger deal of it than is worth it.

I appreciate the point you're trying to make, I just think you're worrying about something which isn't worth being concerned about.

Anyway, I imagine his first day of work will be like it was for new people everywhere I have worked - give them the HR handbook, tell them to look at the company intranet, and hope that someone else tells them what to do in the meantime*

I would imagine that Unai and Danks have already held in-depth discussions about how the players should be training for the game on Sunday (allegedly).

Chris, it's not just about Sunday, it's about the rest of the seaon and beyond. 24 hours is not going to make much difference. Now go and have a lie down and put some of Woofles soothing jazz on.

I hope he is having to spend several hours learning how not to click a suspicious email link and being informed of the safe way to lift a box.

There's no alleged about it. There definitely is a game on Sunday.  ;)
