He was also succeeding Wenger, a club legend. That kind of role is virtually impossible from the start.

Let's face it, there was a reason Arsenal got rid of Wenger. Maybe Arsenal fans expected Emery to come in and fix it overnight. It was never going to happen, same as the Plastics when Fergie left. How many managers have they been through to get back on track?

Not sure how he's going to do following on from Gerrard then. ;)

😂

Gerrard was a leg end, just not outside of Liverpool and the sport desks of BBC and Sky.

And those ungrateful tarquins at Arsenal lost a very good manager that laid the foundations for Arteta's success.  When I thought he had been a failure I had not realised how close he had got them to the top 4 and the final etc.

I was only speaking to an Arsenal season ticket holding friend on Friday evening and I asked for his thoughts on Emery.

His reply was quite laughable..."Awful..even when we got up to a 15 game unbeaten run I had to drag myself to the ground".

I was sold on the 15 game unbeaten run. Which went up further I think?

22 or 23 unbeaten I think.

Some Arsenal fans are just massive whinging Tarquins. You only have to see how some of them react on that stupid you tube chanel when they lose a game.

A bit of entertainment is nice, but I'd take going unbeaten for 22 games right now, even if they were all 1-0 v Southampton performances. I mean, it won't happen, but entertaining but ultimately plucky defeats like the Chelsea one don't move you up the table.

There's a lot of utter ****** with rubbish opinions in the media, aren't there.

Aly mccoist? ******. Gary Lineker? ******. Stuart Pearce? ******. Danny Murphy? ******. Paul cunting Lambert? ******.

Reading about Ozil tweeting about Emery's English a while back. Ozil? ******.

So many ******. Fuck off and focus on your own miserable clubs and miserable lives.

I hope Emery smashes it at the Villa!

Apologies. My language is appalling.

Most of them are failed managers, lower level footballers, or shit co-commentators/failed full time pundits. But they are thick, rent-a-gob, equivalent of clickbait, narcissistic arseholes who think, because they've been invited to give an opinion, that they are the oracle.

They're all the things you say, but certainly not lower level footballers.

Hmmm, but none of them played for the Villa?! :-)

Indeed, there can't be many bigger cities than Brum that have never had a team play in the Champions League. (yes, I know football existed before it was invented). I want us to be top 4.

I’ve spoken to or messaged a few other Villa fans today and the reaction has been universally positive, I think MON was the last time I remember similar. At the final whistle of the Fulham game who could have predicted such a quick turnaround in the mood. It just feels that he is exactly the right man at the right time.

Disgraceful he only took THIS side to 2 points off third place and just one European final.

I've heard he wants to change the walk-on music to RHCP...

Well, if it's (water) Under the Bridge it mightn't be a bad start. :)

I admonished Lineker on his Twitter feed, telling him he was "out of order" and "classless", and it has received 34 likes to date, making it my second most successful tweet ever.*

Top five could be enough in a couple of seasons.

Anyway, you inspired me to look this up. European cities bigger than Birmingham that haven't had a team in the Champions League Group Stage...

Minsk*
Kharkiv* (although Shakhtar Donetsk played home games there between the 2014 and 2022 Russian invasions)
Nizhny Novgorod**
Tbilisi*
Samara**
Ufa**

*have played in qualifying stages
**Russian city currently ineligible for European competition

What about Berlin?

Surely the most underperforming large football city in Europe?

Yes I guessed there would be places in far flung eastern countries that I'd mostly not heard of.
