           Carew
Bailey Coutinho Ramsey
It will probably be Watkins though, with Ings coming off the bench to score the winner

Not going. Not watching. Will follow it on here after work. Bet Gerrard plays one up front.
6-0 win incoming then!!!

I plan to turn up after the anthem is over. Have had arguments with fans like chrisw, who can't bear that anyone else doesn't share their opinion, at games before and it puts you on edge. I'd rather miss that unpleasantness by arriving just as the match kicks off.

Yep I agree, that’s a good idea. If you don’t sing the anthem you put yourself out for ridicule etc. As I have said I think the best and polite thing to do is not to participate and that is what I will do.

I don’t think that anyone will care whether you join in or not.  What some people will take offence at though if we get the odd nobba that boos like some of the Liverpool lot did the other night which quite frankly would make us look a bit pants.

If people feel like booing then why get so het up about it? People obviously have polar feelings about the monarchy and it's symbolism/meaning/function, if someone wants to show protest then surely we can be robust enough in our views to accept it?

I guarantee far fewer people will boo the anthem than booed the kneeling last season, just saying

Similar to my ritual nowadays. Mostly it involves usually not bothering to watch at stupid o'clock (Japan is 8 or 9 hours ahead)
Started towards the end of Smith's time when I got fed up of the crap football he served up, and has continued through pea headed Scouserball.

We did well against Man City, and I think we'll get a draw here. Fear that Southampton might be too good for us.

Because then, even if its incredibly unlikely, we all get tarred with the same brush as being ‘look at me’ throbbers’ unable to just keep schtumb whether we agree with the monarchy or not. Just because you can use these occasions to make a point, it doesn’t mean you should.

Nobody is so exercised by the constitutional settlement of the UK to feel so moved to anger that they boo during a period of respect. Even the most self proclaimed ardent Republican on here is about as committed to that cause as Small Heath's owners are to making them a serious enterprise. Booing would be all about you and drawing attention to yourself, so have a day off from such narcissistic tendencies.

A brush firmly in the hands of the mostly right wing opinion piece writers and hysterical culture war types. Who cares?

Also the point of protest is exactly this, you should because you can and this is the beauty of a free society

Is it true, that "God hates fags"?

You're confusing an individuals freedom to "protest" with another individuals freedom to judge you. It's a moral argument, a societal one, it's not about freedoms, those aren't up for debate.

This is my view.

I'll be silent with everyone else in respect for the grandmother of a Villa fan, not for the ceremonial office she held.

I'll be silent during the anthem, as I have been during every anthem I've been present for
I never sung as a kid due to having a crap voice. Since around age twelve I've been an atheist and anti-royalist, so have opted out for that reason.

In my view funerals and commemorations are not the time for protests, whether permissible or not.

Either stay silent or stay away.

The Coronation however, that's different

There is no truth, only opinion and morals based on shaky ground either way, so I'm not confusing them, just saying we should all be less judgy. And that goes both ways.

And using the god hates fags comparison here is absolutely nonsense and you know it

Coutinho put in his best performance for us against them, wonder if that will count for anything? I hope so.

His best performance was against Leeds, IMO.
