You missed a bit:

Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
and like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush!
God save the King!
I was typing from memory* in a rush on my phone and got distracted. ;-)

Well, it's only one verse long, think ourselves lucky that we've not got one that drags on and on.
God save our gracious King,
Long live our noble King,
God save the King!
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the King!

O Lord our God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!

Not in this land alone,
But be God’s mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world o’er.

From every latent foe,
From the assassins blow,
God save the King!
O’er his thine arm extend,
For Britain’s sake defend,
Our father, prince, and friend,
God save the King!

Thy choicest gifts in store,
On him be pleased to pour,
Long may he reign!
May he defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the King!

Presumably this will be sung at every Villa game once Will takes the throne?

I'll be maintaining a respectful silence down on the concourse and will take my seat once the anthem has been sung. In fact I may put my headphones in and listen to Jerusalem instead.

3-1 Villa.

believe he changes it eventually to that one which contains something about 1982,

so who does Dendoncker come in for tomorrow?

Would leave him on the bench. Hopefully he gets 20 minutes if we're 2-3 up as we were last year.

We really need to give Luiz-Kamara a run of games as the pivot infront of the back 4. I'm sure Gerrard will be creative as usual and try to shoehorn McGinn in there aswell but at least keep what worked v Man. City as we'll need to move the ball around Ward Prowse and whoever else they have in CM.

I'm 56, going on 57, and I can hand on heart say I have never in my entire life heard a rendition of more than one verse.

Japan world cup 2002 played a second verse when England played.

The quality of the song isn't in question.  It's the willingness of people who live and presumably make a living in this country to be prepared to, at the very least, just shut the fuck up and show a bit of respect for about 60 seconds, whatever the wider view on the Royal familiy.

I can't imagine there'll be many doing any different tomorrow night.

Indeed. I won't boo, nor will I sing along. I will merely gently, thoughtfully - and very publicly - masturbate to the internal tune of a McCain's oven chips ad from the 1980s, "We Hope it's Chips, it's Chips".

I feel like it's what she would've wanted.

I’ve messaged Nicholas Witchell and he says you’re very well informed, it’s exactly what she would have wanted.

I plan to turn up after the anthem is over. Have had arguments with fans like chrisw, who can't bear that anyone else doesn't share their opinion, at games before and it puts you on edge. I'd rather miss that unpleasantness by arriving just as the match kicks off.

Yep I agree, that’s a good idea. If you don’t sing the anthem you put yourself out for ridicule etc. As I have said I think the best and polite thing to do is not to participate and that is what I will do.

I don’t think that anyone will care whether you join in or not.  What some people will take offence at though if we get the odd nobba that boos like some of the Liverpool lot did the other night which quite frankly would make us look a bit pants.

Well some Villa fans at Wembley v Arsenal did have a problem when I didn’t sing the anthem, and they kept at me throughout the game, that’s why I remove myself from this kind of situation.

Go on then? Do you think Stevie will play Ings & Watkins (if fit) or just Watkins, what would be your preferred line up?
