Yes, it's definitely the yellow lion on a blue background which is the is weakest part of the thing. Why there has to be any yellow at all is beyond me, but it's clear that Heck & Co. wanted to more or less keep the branding which, to be fair, we've enjoyed endured since Lerner discovered MS Paint. Ho hum, it's done now, but it continues to be uninspiring and not very classy.

The lion looks piss poor. There are some they have trademarked which look really good, but the lion in the adidas announcement is just shit. And that's being kind. As rampant as a yellow blomonge.

We've had a yellow lion for almost 35 years, it's hardly a new thing?

Well, quite. That's presumably why we're keeping it.

I'd like to simplify things by having the shield badge on the home kit, the circle on the away kit and just a Lion on the third kit that faces left for cup games and right for league.
I hadn't considered this before, but now I've seen it - I can't see how we could have anything different.

Although I'd prefer the lion to face in the direction of the opposing club's ground.  Left for clubs whose grounds are west of Villa Park, right for clubs whose grounds are east of Villa Park, up for clubs whose grounds are north of Villa Park, and down for clubs whose grounds are south of Villa Park.

Then you'd use a different badge to denote the type of competition - so shield for league games, round for European games, standalone lion for domestic cup games.   And the number of stars would be the number of times we'd won whatever competition we were playing in at the time.  So a League Cup game against Tranmere would be standalone lion looking upwards and to the left, with 5 stars forming a kind of arch over the lion's head.

It's been a shield shape for quite a long time too, I'm sure? Understandable people from different eras have strong feeling about certain elements, but for a lot of us a yellow lion on some kind of shield is Aston Villa.

That's undoubtedly true. My 18 year old nephew said the same this afternoon. I think the 80s badge is best, but I really don't mind a shield. It's the yellow-lion-on-sky blue-background combination which I think is weak. I thought the same when it was introduced.

I don’t really care about the shape as such, I just want it to be well designed and to look good. Lerner’s badge failed on both points and Heck’s is even worse.

Apart from a 20 year period, shields have been more part of our identity than round badges.

I prefer a shield but as you say, it's all I've ever known. I agree on the lion colour though even though I've only ever known us with a yellow lion. I think we're going to get a few mono colour badges on things by the looks of it anyway.

It seems that Stoke are changing theirs to this based on their social media.

It's not enough. That thing's pointing toward the ground.
