"As part of its turnaround plans, Aston Villa is moving operations in-house, with the entire rebrand completed internally."

So it really was the trainee with photoshop?

Just read this

So Chris Heck takes full responsibility for moving away from the circle logo and claims that fans complained they didn't have enough choice on the circle logo!

To suggest there was a lack of fan consultation on the round badge is totally wrong, is it not? Sure, plenty of people didn't like it, but to suggest there were no consultations or voting on it is entirely inaccurate?

I'm coming round to the new badge.  I'll never believe 'drop shadow' is something that should be on a modern badge, but the monochrome versions from the playbook in that article look pretty good.  I could see them looking very nice as a light blue on a claret training top, for example.

Now let's see the shirt...

There was certainly less consultation on his new one, so it's a bit rich to cite the lack of consultation last time.

With that said, I don't think the round badge design and vote was handled at all well, it felt like a bodge from start to finish.

I like the new badge. 300m fans seems quite a lot. If we all donated 40p today, we'd wipe that annual loss out.

Incredible the amount of rose-tinted glasses on the round badge design.  Purslow provided 2 options ... one was the round badge, the other was a monstrosity that was clearly an option put there to fail.  it was a consultation in name only.

In the circumstances I think it's perfectly reasonable to effectively go back to the old badge, which is essentially what's happened - albeit a slightly updated version.  And, being a splitter here, I prefer the Heck badge to the Lerner 'AVFC' one.

The Heck version is marginally better than the Lerner version - adding in Aston Villa is the only improvement. The composition is poor, the hierarchy of elements isn't right, the blue on yellow doesn't work technically and it isn't representative of our colours (oddly, it's something Heck keeps banging on about).

But whatever you think about it, they've changed the badge without any consultation, and that's against FA rules.

It was a joke of a vote.  But the truth is a round badge would have won any vote against any other design because of nostalgia.  It would win a vote against the new one, Lerners badges and any other badge since Ellis scrapped it.

That said, I don't necessarily think it was the right option and kind of agree with Heck's thinking.  I just wish he'd made a better job of his new design.

The drop shadow is fucking awful, I really hope that is quietly fucked off next year. However my biggest problem with the badge only really shows up on the mono versions. The lion in full detail is fine but the silhouette is just really bland and that is all we'll see 99% of the time.

And as I thought, we aren't using the Lino print lion.

Which is a shame as that was the only positive part of any of this whole abomination.

I think I enjoy how upset this makes people. It's a bit like watching my mom get wound up by somebody parking opposite their drive and forcing my dad to agree.

Have you seen the new badge? Is there anything on there that reminds you of a shadow. It's that.

It's a dated design technique that creates the impression that a design element - in this case the lion - is floating above the rest of the graphic, casting a shadow underneath.

They are a pain, as they don't work well on screen, or small iterations of the design as you can't see them, or on physical things like badges and embroidered stuff like shirts...
