I spent most the game taking my daughter to get her first Covid jab at a walk in centre. She works at a busy holiday park and it’s pretty rife here now so we didn’t want to wait for the call up. I’m sure as it’s so bloody busy down here the 4G is being all being absorbed and I was going potty trying to keep tabs on the score. My car stereo doesn’t play AM so all I had was BBC Radio Devon playing Exeter City with the odd visit to Torquay and Plymouth.

Why does my bloody phone say 4G and then not work! Grrrr.

Anyway we’ll done Villa. Good to hear Ramsey played well and JPB feature at the end. Stunning goal by Ings too!

Three points and Ramsey looks the biz.
Let’s hope we can buy a couple more players next week and ship AEG out.

Yeh, that 100% penalty record definitely needs replacing.

Pleased with the result and a clean sheet was brilliant.
Ing's goal was special. A great instinctive player to have in the team.
Still a lot of work to do, felt we dropped off the pace of the game after the 2nd goal. It'll be great to have Watkins back and I look forward to seeing what Bailey can do.
Still need a strong midfield signing!
Newcastle under bruce look like they will struggle. I wonder how long he'll last there, hopefully all season!
UTV!

I was pleased with the performance a bit disjointed at times but you could see some green shoots of fluency. So scores on the doors for me

Martinez - 7 didn’t have much to do and apart from the rush of blood to the head was secure.
Cash - 7 got forward well much more than I’d noticed before and was pretty ok defensively, out of position a couple of times but generally ok.
Konsa - 7 solid reliable, unflustered
Mings - 7.5 a real warrior got done a couple of times but superbly led the defence in the second half.
Young - 7 did well combative and in the refs face constantly. Was winding up Wilson all afternoon.
Luiz - 7 grew into the game but took and used the ball well all afternoon.
McGinn - 7 constantly fouled but good to see John contributing positively on both directions.
Ramsey -7.5 and MOTM, lovely progressive play once he was up to speed. Has filled out so he can deal with the physical stuff.
El Ghazi - 6.5 was not involved enough and ice cold penalty but still feel as though he’s a bit meh otherwise.
Ings -7.5 lovely goal didn’t get much service but looking sharper.
Buendia- 7 - thought he was good today, seems a bit slow at times so I’m assuming he needs to up his fitness.

Subs - all did what they needed to.

Smith - 7 got his midfield right and you sense there’s more fluency to come.

The opposition- Potato head came for a point as usual and went with none, oh and Callum Wilson what a twat.

Relieved to get the three points. It was really important we got that win. Brilliant finish from Ings and great pen AEG.

We need to better at controlling the game, we left it too open and gave them a few opportunities. Thought Ramsey did nicely today and Emi B was better physically.

A win was needed, and it is always pleasing to take three points against against Potato Head. Fantastic goal from Ings and a cool penalty from El Ghazi. Other than that...

That's the way I saw too. Ramsey's best start for us, he's a fine athlete. Young was very good until he tired. That aside it was very average. Badly missing Grealish let's be honest.

A satisfying win and performance. The difference in work rate between today and last week was a major factor.

Ings, class. Great to see us signing a player totally in their prime.

Ramsey seems to have added some aggression to his game. Great performance today from him.

“We trained all week in dry conditions and today at Villa Park the rain was very wet which we didnt prepare for"

Steve Bruce

Yes this game of football hangs on small drops like that.

Is Souness on their coaching staff now?

Yeh, that 100% penalty record definitely needs replacing.
he was pretty poor except for the penalty. He is not good enough for this level.

Routine (!) home win against a poor Newcastle side.

“This level”? Sorry to be a nark, but until anyone else can be Mr Reliable, I’ll still be defending him.

Martinez 6 complete rush of blood for the non penalty but did not have much to do.
Cash 7 fully committed performance
Mings 6
Konsa 6
Young 8 used his experience
Luiz 6 sloppy at times
Buendia 8 full of energy and guile
SJM 8 played higher up the pitch and it showed
AEG 4 Great penalty but really poor.
Ramsey 7 a very accomplished performance after some early lapses.
Ings 7 just for the finish

Good summary. Mainly agree.

I love Emi, but no way is that a 7 performance today. Didn’t have much to do and nearly let them back in it with a rush of blood. 5 for me.

Bit generous for Dougie too. Konsa arguably higher - their best 2 players are their front two and despite lots of possession they didn’t get much of a sniff. Loved Ramsey today.

Ramsey really impressed me today. Looks a lot bettwe from the last two games to now. Only thing us he needs to be abit vocal he seems like a real quiet chatchter on the pitch
