Aston Villa 2-0 Newcastle Utd - post match thread

Good result, ok performance. Silver lining. We are 4 goals, none conceded since being 3-0 down at Watford. Lots of players to come back in and others to step up and play better.

Danny Ings with one of the best first goals at Villa Park for us you’ll see. Great signing

That'll do. Plenty to work on, but did enough today. Midfield way better, and Ramsey is looking very promising.

Very happy with a win given the first half hour or so. The better team from then on, bar a brief spell after our second.

Clean sheet number one.
Ings two in two.
Positive goal difference.

The team is coming together.

Ings is quality. Buendia was better this week. Ramsey is coming on very nicely. We could do with Bailey being back for his pace. We could do with Watkins being back for his work-rate. We still look like we could use an anchor-man type player.

Delighted with the win, Ings' goal was pure brilliance, Buendìa was improved and Ramsey looked really good in midfield.

We will need to improve though, this was one of the easiest games on-paper of the season and we gutted through it with no small amount of luck (Wilson's miss, Wilson's being a ballhair offside). I appreciate players were missing who'd make us more dangerous, but there are structural issues too, i.e. far too many long balls, lack of movement in midfield and a very worrying openness through the middle of the defence.

Still, that's for another day. VP looked absolutely ferocious, fuck I wish I was there for this one. At least we're back, and with a win in the bag.

Good win. After Wilson missed that complete sitter you just knew it was going to be our day.

I think goal of the month is pretty much wrapped up. That Ings spectacular won't be beaten.

Fantastic goal from Danny Ings, solid 3 pts, looked lacking in creativity in midfield area's at times, but then we have been used to one of the best players in the world doing that job.

We go again.

Good results when not playing well with your best players out is the perfect way to go. It's what the best sides do.

So so performance but three points. Third year in a row we’ve done the Geordies 2-0 at home.

After a poor opening 20 minutes, I thought we were pretty decent.

Best game from Ramsey starting and generally midfield far more balanced today, SJM and Luiz did fine. Young was excellent at LB, oozes experience there.

Newcastle limited team as we know but they'll obviously take points off top half teams as season goes on so for where we are presently as a club that's a good win for me.

Nice to have VAR go for us today, was surprised the Newcastle penalty got overturned as thought those sorts of offsides wouldn't be called this season.

Thought atmosphere was brilliant aswell, crowd played it exactly as was needed so hopefully same again for Brentford.

Managed to find a stream 2 mins before Ings goal.  What a finish!  I enjoyed that, lovely to see a full Holte in full voice.

The link to Abdou Harroui coming in from Sparta Rotterdam looks strong. Let's see.
