It was absolutely as bad as McLeish days, utter garbage. Bruce - like McLeish - both came across as decent types, but their idea of 'tactics' was to slap the lads on the back and egg them on as they ran out, then hope for the best.

I’d need to check who signed who but didn’t he just sign all the championship goal scorers without thought of how we use them, or effective use of them sometimes?
My feeling was Brucie stopped the drooping like a stone, but never before have I refused to go out of the pain of the football.

No. Steve Bruce more depressing than Roberto di Matteo or Remi Garde, losing every game? Just bizarre. He finished top six in his only full season so blaming him for not finishing higher the previous year when we were heading for the Third Division when he took over is just weird.

He absolutely 100% stabilised the club. Anything else is just pointless revisionism.

We spent more money than any side had ever spent in the second tier. A decade on most of them still won't be able to spend what we did. And the football was mainly shit, relying on our more expensive and better players than the opposition team had to provide a 'bit of magic'. His entire managerial career was spent being a boring old-fashioned manager that was always behind the times.
