As long as we are accepting speculation I’ll post this message I got for discussion purposes, as it relates to Chris Harte’s post above. Not saying it’s gospel at all.

“I have been told by one of my contacts that’s hardly ever wrong that architects at Grimshaw have now been tasked with designing an expansion of the DE to go over the road with a tunnel taking VP to 58-59k planning to be submitted at the end of the year for construction to happen after Euro 28.”

We could be Greece to the Sports Quarter's Rome. If we're incredibly lucky.
Except Rome actually got built.

Edit, just to add I've no insider knowledge whatsoever.

Another edit, if the control boxes in the Witton/Holte corner could be moved elsewhere then the Witton could potentially be widened.

Yet another edit, sorry for all the edits!  ;D

I could see the lower being kept, but with a lot of work on the councourses, etc. I'd be amazed if the upper isn't pretty much completely replaced, it has so many problems.

A shell around the north was easier because it had all the old office space that could be repurposed, the DE is all squeezed into the smallest amount of space they could manage. It'll be interesting to see what the plans are for the gantry up there, I can't imagine it not getting a massive upgrade because it's very basic right now.

There would be a significant problem around obstruction of light to the houses behind. And I agree, Paul, the upper concourse of that stand is absolutely awful.

The light obstruction was the reason the stand is so relatively small and cramped in the first place. And an obstacle that needs to be overcome if it really is going to be expanded/rebuilt.

Blimey. That’d be quite something. Guess it’d take the Witton Lane stand capacity up to 16k-ish

That sounds promising, although, hopefully, 60k-plus is the target.

Thanks for posting.

I guess we’re about 90 per cent certain now give the connecting circumstances.

It seems to me this has been developing for something over ten years so is very complex and may take several more yet.

Sounds like my seat may be in jeopardy at some point!

It would be a different job to the North I would imagine. The lower tier could probably be kept but the upper would surely have to go.

I wonder if they could keep the stand open and build the new bit behind and then finish the internal bits on a close season, similar to what Liverpool did?
