I suppose it depends how badly we want to compete? Because if that's the objective then Villa Park just doesn't cut it as a cash generator, and probably never will.

Me, I'd rather muddle along without selling any more soul. If that means we're not as successful then I don't really mind. Wanting is almost always better than getting, and I wouldn't want an Emirates or the like in the first place.

But I think me and my fellow codgers on here are probably the minority.

Witton Lane was done before Holte but only by a year or so

Will be difficult to get misty eyed about the history and heritage of that cut and shut job.

The Upper Witton Lane was. Then they decided they needed to rebulid the Lower. This was after the Holte was completed so technically the Lower Witton is the newest part.

Think the redeveloped North Stand will make a noticeable difference.  Although it might not solve all our problems, I think a 52,000 capacity would be about right for us really for the next few years. 

That piece of land they've bought by the academy might open some options in the longer term in terms of looking what could be done on Witton Lane to take the capacity towards 60,000 if needed.

Westbury Park? Yes, if that could be used for re-housing the residents behind Witton Lane it would indeed open up the possibilities for that stand. A few thousand extra seats and maximum corporate.

The local growth plan at least suggests the idea of a Deer District-type development of the local area. Also, that bit of land we’ve bought is big enough to build a new ground.

I dont think we've actually brought that land though, only seen speculation based on a charge that includes the inner city academy, which happens to include land titles in those general directions, amongst other club assets.

The more premier league clubs that build shiny mega bowls, the more our stadium becomes our USP.

That will become even more pronounced in 20, 30, 40 years when these new stadiums really start to look dated and of their time.

Won’t the holte end be the oldest stand by the time the NS is done?  I remember it being built and I’m not *that* ancient.

I think it depends on what work’s done, but if it is just a case of extending the north stand across & back, I say that’s the same stand. If they knock a significant amount of it down to build it, fair enough that’s a new stand, but I (personally) don’t think that’s what’s happening with the north stand.


You can add me to the list of people who never want Villa to leave Villa Park, no matter what*. As others have said it’s becoming increasingly unique in a field where it was already *pretty* unique anyway.

As others have said, 52k is absolutely fine for us for now, and I think we’ll eventually get it up 55k-59k with further redevelopment of e.g the Witton lane stand.

I don’t think we would ever need more than that, as we don’t have a tram stop or the name of the city, so pretty pointless aiming for higher.

By paying for the title from the land registry. Was last bought in 2018. The charge has the land registry reference on it. I don't really want to pay 3 quid to do it though

That is listed under the academy in the definition. Same with Land West of Thame Road, which is defo a small bit attached to the academy, not the allocated land. Suspect the land east is also an incidental plot of land, the allocated site is massive and has loads of different land titles. Not prepared to pay for titles docs though and searching on mobile is a pain. Would be great if we did own it all, but seen nothing to say we do, and would expect it would have made the news given the size of it.

It's not just increasing the capacity to 52k or so, also having facilities and ability to generate more money.
