Any concerts planned this summer, or are we concentrating on the North Stand?

On the underground back from White Hart Lane I noticed that they referred to the line as “The Events Line” not THFC stadium where football matches take place, but an events stadium. Not just sports, concerts, exhibitions, whatever you want I imagine.
If your purpose is getting the quickest possible return on your investment and maximising every opportunity then that’s fine. But if you want it as the home of a football club that has a soul then an events stadium will not do it. Maybe in time it might get there but for now I couldn’t help feel American football.
I mentioned previously that overhearing two Spurs fans in their mid 50s longing for the old White Hart Lane and being envious of VP. Shiny things dull up quickly it seems.

A friend of mine is a big Arsenal fan and even a few years into the Emirates experience, he was muttering that he wished they'd never left Highbury.

As someone said to me on a Concorde retirement flight, "Now it's (BA) just another airline". Saving the millions it was losing on the service didn't usher in a bright new era, but rather a continued focus on the financial side. However, the cachet it had from operating such a unique plane was gone, and never to be restored. As he predicted, now it's just another airline.

Real traditional fans who appreciate what a football ground should look like love Villa Park. We are just fortunate it belongs to us.

I suppose it depends how badly we want to compete? Because if that's the objective then Villa Park just doesn't cut it as a cash generator, and probably never will.

Me, I'd rather muddle along without selling any more soul. If that means we're not as successful then I don't really mind. Wanting is almost always better than getting, and I wouldn't want an Emirates or the like in the first place.

But I think me and my fellow codgers on here are probably the minority.

It depends what we can continue to do with renovating VP from within if we can get it towards 60k and significantly upgrade the concourses and corporate bits, then there's less reason to leave. Sustained CL qualification and sponsorship should help with that.

Spurs have a fantastic sports stadium, we have a fantastic football ground. Spurs will never have a fantastic football ground again, they'll never have another Shelf.

The more premier league clubs that build shiny mega bowls, the more our stadium becomes our USP.

That will become even more pronounced in 20, 30, 40 years when these new stadiums really start to look dated and of their time.

Villa Park is timeless.

Won’t the holte end be the oldest stand by the time the NS is done?  I remember it being built and I’m not *that* ancient.

Think the redeveloped North Stand will make a noticeable difference.  Although it might not solve all our problems, I think a 52,000 capacity would be about right for us really for the next few years.

That piece of land they've bought by the academy might open some options in the longer term in terms of looking what could be done on Witton Lane to take the capacity towards 60,000 if needed.

True, but Trigger’s broom is still Trigger’s broom.
