Assuming we do go over 43k for a leage game it would be the first time since 1994 and the second since 1981.

I remember the WBA game at home in the title season, the crowd was 47998 (capacity 48000) we were sat in the North Stand with 2 empty seats about 3 places away from us!!

We had a lot of 48k sell outs in the ‘80s.

When they read the attendance out over the tannoy, some bloke by us on the Holte shouted "the lucky pair of fuckers!" (it wasn't the greatest game at the point)

I don't think we did, which is why that stuck out, we only got about 46K in for the Ipswich "title decider" that wasn't!!

And remember, these are announced attendances and not necessarily how many people were in the ground.

Back then it was more likely an announced attendance would be lower than the number of people actually in the ground. the old chairman's turnstile.

I've gone all misty-eyed now for those days again,  how lucky we were to experience it.

I'll always remember being at the Rovers when we played Barnet in the FA Trophy, back when Barnet were the main non league side. When the attendance was announced there was a mass of laughter around the ground as it was about half of the amount actually in the ground.

Did we reach 40k much between 1984 and '89?

42,426 V Everton in the 84 LC SF. After that we rarely hit 30k never mind 40k.

I seem to remember a game against Arsenal in the early 90s where the crowd announced was 25k or something.

Actually just checked, and it was the 0-0 on 23rd December 1990.  Crowd given was 22,687, even though Villa Park was clearly about 90% full.

EDIT - Actually, I think it was the one the following season when we beat them 3-1 in August.  Announced crowd was 29k, when the ground was pretty much full so at least 39k in.  Crowds announced for both were at least 10k below the actual number in the ground.

Let’s face it, the mid to late 80s we’re shit for English football, overall attendances were down.
