Then again, I suppose having an aesthetically-pleasing ground has some economic value, even if it’s hard to quantify. It’s a bit of a USP, creates a deeper feeling of emotional attachment amongst fans, may be attractive to sponsors etc.

It’s no mistake that those ornamental flourishes on the new shirt sleeves are being used everywhere - heritage is a big part if the ‘idea’ of Aston Villa, and they’re obviously going full tilt on reinforcing it everywhere they can.

While your line may have been a bit throwaway, having a brand strategy is 100% part of how you grow a big business - and appeal to sponsors who want to align themselves with the ideas being communicated.

Having a clear concept and using it consistently is marketing 101. The thought that everything you do needs to effect the bottom line is short term-ism (see Man Utd under Ratcliffe). In general, the bigger the (consumer facing) business, the more is spent on intangibles (see Coca Cola, Adidas, etc)

Doug’s destruction of the old trinity road facade was so stupid in light of this - is was such a strong part of the Aston Villa ‘brand’.

Doug didn’t have a clue about brand really. Neither did Randy Lerner who in fairness embraced the history, the Holte and Holte Pub, but the chequered stuff, what was that all about?

Agree Gareth, another reason why reversing the Lion was such a stupid idea and rightly corrected.

Villa Park will host Gallagher PREM Rugby next March with Gloucester Rugby taking on Leicester Tigers at Aston Villa’s famous home.

The fixture, to be played on Saturday, March 28, 2026 (ko 1pm), forms part of the rugby top flight’s ‘Big Game’ weekend where Gloucester will join both Bristol and Saracens in hosting fixtures away from their home stadiums.

Following on from a summer of successful concerts where some of the world’s biggest and most iconic artists played at B6, this latest announcement ties in to the wider plan to make Villa Park the go-to destination in the West Midlands for music, other sports plus much more, providing the Club with additional revenue streams.

Due to take place during the men’s international break in March 2026, Gloucester and Leicester will face off for the Slater Cup (named after former Gloucester and Leicester lock Ed Slater who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in July 2022) which is contested between the two teams every season across each home and away Gallagher PREM fixtures.

That opinion seems a bit OTT. I'm all for emphasising the role that we and the stadium play in developing the brand and the club's financial strength.
I just read the p.r. and thought "yeah, nice one".
