I think last season was the time when some good young keepers came onto the market. Manure/Martinez/Monchi screwed us over at the start of the season with the attempt to buy Eni, then actually signed the player we would have probably replaced him with in Lammens. However Chevalier at PSG has also shown that good young keepers could struggle and harm their career when replacing a giant in that position.

We could be open to letting him go based on fitness. If we think whatever is causing him to pull out of so many games is going to persist and/or worsen we may decide now is the time to get what we can.

Maybe but that would also come up in any assessment at a new club and impact his contract/role there so if it was a real risk there's no incentive for him to be looking when he's got a nice safe 3 years left on his contract with us.

Was he not quoted that he would not leave us until we reached the Champions league and or won us a trophy

Well he has kept his side of the bargain.

If he has a memorable WC then i would want at the very least our money back (£20M) as he is still one of the best keepers in the world and 34 is not a bad age as he is super fit still.

If we have to sell him (and i hope we dont as he is a kingpin to this team and other fans hate him and we need a character like that) but if we do I would then go get Zion Suzuki to replace him and keep Bizot as back up

This is probably my naivety on global football, but I’ve never heard of Zion Suzuki. I can see he’s the Japanese and Parma keeper, but what style of keeper is he? And is he any good?!

I was about to post that it would be cool to have two keepers with z in their name competing and what are the odds of that! Then I looked at the thread title...  :-X

Just posted something similar. Find a keeper who distributes as well as he does. I don’t know one who also can make the saves he does.

On the plus side, it'll be nice to have a keeper who doesn't assist goals against himself by parrying the ball into danger.

You will have to point out which keeper has never done that so we can go and buy him.

I mean he does it enough for it to be noticeable. I assume there's plenty of goalkeepers who do it much less. Look, I love the guy, I even tracked down his mural in a non-descript part of Buenos Aires 18 months ago.

I don't want him to leave but the Hollywood save and palm it out to the striker is the main thing I wouldn't miss about him (off the top of my head since Christmas - Everton at home, Fulham and Burnley away. Did it against Gapko the other week but got away with an offside).

He's a great player and character to have on your side - and a complete shithouse if you're the opposition. At least if it's Juve, we'll never see him again as we're on a higher plain.

I think we’ll only realise what we’ve lost when he’s not here.

I’d be absolutely keeping him for atleast another year. No ifs or buts.

This is the question mark for me - are the club aware that there is a persistent issue with him that can't be solved.  There were what, 3 or 4 occasions last season where he had to be replaced at the last minute?  If there is an underlying problem then that is the only reason I can possibly see for letting him go for anything less than £20 million.  In any other circumstances you'd be wanting 2 or 3 times that amount.

Did he not agree personal terms with teams last year but they wouldn’t pay us the money?

He’s an absolute Harley of a keeper.

Same here.  I would be offering him a new contract on better terms too.

I think he denied that pretty recently.

I think right now it's his agent claiming the numbers work in terms of salary, personal terms but not much more than that. As others have said, Juventus want him on the cheap which should hopefully be laughed at by our owners.

Or, we might 'owe them' for the Duggie Luiz shenanagins swap that got us out of a tight hole. The owners of both are friends aren't they?
