One of our few world-class players in living memory and we can't seem to wait to get rid of him.

Yeah, it's mental.

He’s going to leave eventually but I’d love him to retire in our colours. But I also get he might just want a new challenge. I’ll be very sad if he leaves this summer but at least he leaves on a massive high. And if it helps us keep Rogers somehow then it softens the blow.

If he goes to Juventus I hope he's as big a success as the last one they bought from us.

This always gets said when people discuss someone leaving but people are only discussing it because they know how shit the financial restrictions are so are just getting their head around why the sale may happen and who could come in. If you did a poll you could guarantee well over 90% actually wouldn't want to sell him and they know that whoever comes in will be a downgrade.

Maybe it is just the case that Emi wants to go?

Well he's contracted until 2029, so Juventus can get stuffed with their ideas of getting him for free.

If Martinez was available on a free, there would be a queue of teams looking to take him.

If Juventus think he's going to them on a free, they wrong.

There has to be a reason for Emi going (assuming we allow it)

1 - He wants a new challange / wants to move somewhere where he has certain assurances - and were happy for him to leave as we dont want a player that isnt 100% focused
2 - We want him gone because we think there might be a player we can replace him with that will be an upgrade (Unlikely to be a better actual GK out there, but maybe one who will allow us to play differently)
3 - We want him gone because we think we can balance FFP better over the next season or two with another keeper
4 - Its bollocks and we wont let him go unless we get an offer thats too good to refuse
5 - Were just really, really bad at transfers

I don't want him to leave but pointing out his flaws is the best coping mechanism I can think of.

If he leaves it’s a massive gap to fill - a. he’s top class and b. he’s a more bullish personality than most of the squad.

If you did a poll you could guarantee well over 90% actually wouldn't want to sell him and they know that whoever comes in will be a downgrade.

It's not just that though, look through the comments and there's plenty that think this is the right time for the club to move on. The finance part doesn't even make much sense, we're not getting more than about £15m for him at most and a keeper ready to come in and be first choice is likely to cost at least that much, they might start on a lower wage but if they do the job even close to as well as him they'd be asking for a better deal within 18months so we might, at most, save £4-5m in wages over a couple of seasons, which will be eaten up by agent fees, etc anyway.

The only good reason to let him go is that he wants to leave and we've agreed to allow it if a team meets our valuation. There is no footballing reason for it, he's the current first choice for a team with a very real chance of winning a 4th major international trophy with him in goal and he's just played a big part in us winning a first trophy for 30years and easily has another couple of years at the top level in him.

We could be open to letting him go based on fitness. If we think whatever is causing him to pull out of so many games is going to persist and/or worsen we may decide now is the time to get what we can.

Just posted something similar. Find a keeper who distributes as well as he does. I don’t know one who also can make the saves he does.

On the plus side, it'll be nice to have a keeper who doesn't assist goals against himself by parrying the ball into danger.

You will have to point out which keeper has never done that so we can go and buy him.
