He’s made some great saves this season, and not just inconsequential ones but ones that have won us points. Conversely he’s also started getting stuff that should be basic wrong, and that’s cost us goals. Crosses under the bar and today’s goal come to mind. I think he probably nets out positive at the moment, but he needs to cut the sloppy stuff out.

I wonder what has happened with corners etc, I don't recall him previously being like this? Is it just the change with attackers being more aggressive and getting away with more that he doesn't know how to cope with?

Maybe at corners we miss mings?  we have a lack of physicality in the team, and at set pieces I think we lack a bit of organisation and leadership

Actually think he's been better this season than last.

But it was a bad mistake tonight, as was Pau's.

He has definitely been better than last season, I just don't think he is of the level anymore where I'll be really gutted if he goes. Saying that, maybe I should be worried after our summer recruitment.

The lad in goal for Yanited that we were going to sign as part of the triangular transfer move, looks distinctly average so I'm glad we have Martínez and not Lammens but I think Emi is going through the motions a bit at this stage of his Villa career.

I said it a year ago and I’ll say it again. “The world’s number one “ never in a million years. Basic errors with alarming regularity.

Don't we usually wait for February to get the Pau vs Mings debate out of the box? :)

Think Lammens has been pretty good, personally.

I thought neither Konsa, Pau or Emi covered themselves in glory for the goal, but be Emo while posting better I think this season, head made way more errors leading to goals, which is a bit of a strange one. We, and he, need a fresh start thiis summer.

You're right, Konsa's ball to Pau was too firm or maybe slightly behind him. Something caused Konsa to rush his pass, but can't recall what it was. It started out as a small mistake that was amplified as it transited Konsa, Pau, Emi.

Konsa headed it straight into Barry then casually volleyed the pass to Paul I thought, slightly behind him. Pau i think then thought he had more time, took a poor touch, while Emi thought he had a safe fit the cameras.

Torres touch was Guessand esque but it looked like McNeills shot was more of a pass than a shot. Martinez deals with that and it's a disappointing 0-0. It's a brainless decision from Martinez to parry it, action of a bored goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for Villa, Martinez is not the goalkeeper he was 2 seasons ago. Catch the ball from a placed shot or at the very least parry it out for a corner and there's no problem. Maybe Bizot deserved to start yesterday after his second half showing vs Palace and his game at dirty spurs, with Martinez benched. We no longer have an Olsen/Martinez situation, where Martinez automatically started when available.

Seems to choke in pivotal games these days doesn’t he.  Weird given he’s played and won WC and other big finals.

It was a terrible goal to give away, completely self inflicted. I thought Konsa had recovered well after making a mess of the header initially but take the point the pass wasn't great. The miscontrol from Pau was shit but as they took the shot I thought, that's fine. Awful goalkeeping, although even then I thought he'd block the follow up. Was a good finish.

Bizot is miles better than Olsen but isn't a PL no.1 keeper for me. Just doesn't have the presence to be one. Especially in this era of set piece football.

Martinez cost us a point yesterday with his nonsense but saved us one with an outstanding save at Palace. Wouldn't be worried about his shot stopping. Id be a lot more worried about him in the air like for that disallowed goal. That's hesitation is a flaw in his game now. Whether it's suspect decision making or an increasing lack of bottle, we can't afford to have a keeper hiding on his line.
