Replacement is going to be very interesting. Considering we are on a shoestring this summer, I can see it being a big come down. Wouldn't be shocked if it's a bosman and a cheap but experienced to compete with them. Just not Ramsdale. Ever. Please villa.

The only two keepers of the right sort of profile that are out of contract are Alex Meret at Napoli and Walter Benitez at PSV.

Neither would be a terrible idea if the finances took us that way.

We're bollocksed for wages. Surely we'd be better off taking a hit on a transfer fee than paying a Bosman an astronomical salary?

The internet tells me that Meret currently earns around £50k per week, Benitez around £27k per week, and Emi £150k per week.

I don't think anyone we bring in as a potential Emi replacement will be doing it for room and board.

Raya is clearly a better keeper, beggars belief why Arsenal didn't sign him the previous summer,

I'm assuming the loan was to get around PSR as they had just spent £200m on Rice, Havertz and Timber combined. Brentford also ensured they would get a fee for him rather then Raya going on a freebie as well with the deal as Raya had to sign a contract extension as part of the deal.

Well we did have success with an unwanted Arsenal keeper before...

Raya is clearly a better keeper, beggars belief why Arsenal didn't sign him the previous summer, but I thought Ramsdale did better than I expected with them. Strange how he ended up with Southampton though - Ive no idea how he did this season. Keeper for one of the worst teams in PL history can't have been great for his confidence but not his fault either. Did anybody watch him closely?

He's definitely a step down from Martinez but as a cheap/wildcard option he's not the worst. From memory he's sharp off his line playing sweeper keeper and distribution is decent. Can get trapped on his line alright at set pieces, which would be a big issue if Mings isn't playing considering our back 4.

Henderson was dreadful at Man United but like any player, especially GK, you need to be consistently number 1 to be able to show your best form. Henderson proved that this season. I think that swapping with Raya did nothing for Ramsdale.

I'm surprised by the Ramsdale hate.  I thought he was perfectly fine whenever I've seen him play.  Has he had some big ricks I've missed (I certainly don't watch enough of other teams when they're not playing us to know?) Still only 27, which is a baby in goalkeeping terms.

One big plus is he's quite good with his feet, which if we're to continue playing the way we have in the last year or so, means we need a keeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and can basically become a fifth defender when we're breaking a press.

I dunno, he's not Emi (obviously), but I wouldn't see him as a disastrous signing?  Certainly as we're possibly in the market for two goalkeepers, I'd be more than happy with him being one of them.

It's very important to me that, if the club has the opportunity, it should make the signing of a goalkeeper named Walter a top priority if Damián Emiliano decides to do one. Thank you.

Two people have recently said Ramsdale is good with his feet, I thought that was Arteta’s justification for binning him.

I thought the rest of his game was strong, but he couldn’t play the sweeper keeper bit.  Comes across as a decent bloke and was a hero at arsenal in his first season.

Ramsdale will have been on big(ish) money at Arsenal, and you'd imagine Southampton would have had to come close to matching it to get him to go there. Not that he'll get the same money from his next move, but he'd be expecting something nearly as good if he came here.

Let's stick with Walter and his paltry £27k per week. Good lad, Walter.

No, but there's still quite a big difference between 27k, 50k and 150k per week.

Hasn't Ramsdale been relegated 3 times? Granted, he was playing for teams who were garbage, but he'd be a depressing downgrade.

Whoever we get will be a downgrade. That's the entire point of the rules.

No it isn’t. It’s a consequence of them but not the point. I know it’s semantics but it’s a pet peeve of mine 🤣🤣.

Ramsdale puts panic into defenders, he is a good shot stopper but his decision making is suspect as is his footwork.
No thanks.

It's the point. Rules drawn up by a crooked ex Juventus player (I know that isn't narrowing it down much) to stop clubs having the chance to compete with the likes of Juventus. The only clubs who were given a vote were all similar teams with a vested interest in preventing competition. Iraqi elections under Saddam Hussein were fairer.
