Another reason to hate Arsenal as if there weren't enough.

You don't need a reason to hate Arsenal.

Honestly, I'm a tad disappointed that Kelleher is signing for Brentford, he'd have been good with us.

He's a fine distributor of the ball but levels behind Martinez in terms of presence and ahem..shot saving. Brentford is a good move for him.

He looks a bit like Westlife too.

I have a lot of time for Martinez. He's right up there, but he's offski.

Emotional detachment mode engaged.

Replacement is going to be very interesting. Considering we are on a shoestring this summer, I can see it being a big come down. Wouldn't be shocked if it's a bosman and a cheap but experienced to compete with them. Just not Ramsdale. Ever. Please villa.

I dont think were on a shoe string - thats not how FFP works.  If we sell martinez for 40m say - we make 30m profit (or whatever).

That allows us to spend 80m - so its not were on a shoestring - its just we need to sell get the overhead.

Martinez will be pure profit as he signed in 2020 on a four year deal. So he’ll have zero book value now.

Not quite. Whatever was left unamortised when he signed his new contract gets divided over the length of the new one. It is a piddling amount though.

Yep, there is no shoestring.  I think what we’re seeing now is some clubs (with much larger revenue) spending now of players so that clubs who have to be more careful until June can’t attract the same players.  Another way it’s a closed shop.

I think we’d have sold a big player or two regardless of CL qualification.  After June I expect us to be really active.

The only two keepers of the right sort of profile that are out of contract are Alex Meret at Napoli and Walter Benitez at PSV.

Neither would be a terrible idea if the finances took us that way.

Well we did have success with an unwanted Arsenal keeper before...

Raya is clearly a better keeper, beggars belief why Arsenal didn't sign him the previous summer, but I thought Ramsdale did better than I expected with them. Strange how he ended up with Southampton though - Ive no idea how he did this season. Keeper for one of the worst teams in PL history can't have been great for his confidence but not his fault either. Did anybody watch him closely?

He's definitely a step down from Martinez but as a cheap/wildcard option he's not the worst. From memory he's sharp off his line playing sweeper keeper and distribution is decent. Can get trapped on his line alright at set pieces, which would be a big issue if Mings isn't playing considering our back 4.

Henderson was dreadful at Man United but like any player, especially GK, you need to be consistently number 1 to be able to show your best form. Henderson proved that this season. I think that swapping with Raya did nothing for Ramsdale.

We're bollocksed for wages. Surely we'd be better off taking a hit on a transfer fee than paying a Bosman an astronomical salary?

All the talk about decent/big money for Emi, but do we really think we are going to get a huge amount for someone who is 33 in September ?

I know these are stupid, crazy numbers but, even if we got £30m for him, how much is a comparable replacement going to cost - if there is such a thing ?

I gave a shout for the Palace keeper ages ago, and he would be ideal, but I guess his value has rocketed and he will be be coveted by many clubs now.
