I don't watch much of either of them but the Fulham and Brighton keepers have looked good, particularly playing out from the back

in an interview with Kasper Schmeichel Gary Neville starts criticising Emi Martinez in this video around 34mins on the link

The ignorance from Neville is quite something.
Keane , Carragher , Wright , Jill Scott all understand why Martinez keeps the ball at his feet. And why goal keepers play that way. I was quite annoyed by Neville.

Schmeichel of course explains what majority of us Villa supporters and fans know that it’s the way Villa play.

all the other pundits already know that’s how football by goalkeepers and teams can be played. the tactical nuances.

no wonder Neville failed at Valencia and as a coach with England. He stuck with an old style mindset not understanding the nuances

what’s also interesting is the talk of modern evolution of goal keepers and they become the 11th man an outfield player.

Yeah, I think the continuation where KS was describing actually being on the right hand side of a defensive 3 when in possession would scare the living shit out of us as fans watching it. 🤣

Martinez in Paris! Their fans are going to hate that .
Going to have to be careful with ball at his feet the way they press. Emi will thrive and no doubt make some excellent saves it’s really all exciting but i must not get carried away as have to make sure best Brugge tomorrow!

We still have to get through against Bruges. What do you not understand about that?

The further we get into the champions league, the more we're going to rely on this fella. He absolutely does not shy away from the big games, and if we do lift silverware this season, he'll no doubt have a major hand in it (*no pun intended!).

I would imagine Emi would relish the pantomime villain role - in fact he would thrive off it and probably have a stormer - which i think we may need

He didn't seem too upset by the fans on his back against Lille last Season.

I think he's a player that thrives on abuse from opposition fans.

That first video really shows you how technical goalkeeping is at that level.

Big couple of matches for Emi in the next few days - away against Uruguay tonight then home to Brazil on Wednesday.

For anyone who watches those 3 videos, you might want to re-watch the penalty shoot-out. Edit - doesn't work when posted as a link but I just searched for it.

Watching it live, I didn't realise Emi threw the ball so he had to go and get it or that the Argentina fans were chanting 'he's going to eat you up'.
