I wonder if the punishment of a corner is less serious than indirect free-kick so the officials will be more comfortable with enforcing it.

It hasn’t according to a search I just did.  Just never enforced.

Apart from David James when he played for us, i think it was against Arsenal I think that's the only time it's been enforced

And he was struggling with an injury at the time. Elleray strikes again, the ******.

Id be more happy If they stopped those stupid run up and stop and skips for the penalty taker especially If the goalie is punished for coming off the line .

Yep, one consistent movement from starting point to kicking the ball should be the rule.

Apparently he is the one advocating the rule change.

Quote
Former top-flight referee David Elleray is now technical director for Ifab and was involved in the creation of the new eight-second rule for goalkeepers.

“We were stunned by the results [of the trials] and that’s why we brought it in as an immediate law change," said Elleray. "The deterrent effect is so strong. For those who are worried that it’s going to lead to a whole load of corners during the game, it’s not because the goalkeepers are getting rid of it.”

Elleray, who made his debut as a Football League referee in 1986 and officiated in the Premier League between 1992 and his retirement in 2003, highlighted Manchester United's game against Brighton at Old Trafford last season as an example of how the six-second rule was not implemented.

"The United goalkeeper held the ball was 4.8 seconds, and the average time the Brighton goalkeeper held the ball was 14.8 seconds.

“So we have to do something, and we’re going to give goalkeepers two more seconds but we’re now going to police that strongly.”

Doesn't mention Onana had it in his hands almost 20 seconds from the catch on Sunday of course.

Elleray should have served time for his multitude of fuck-ups.

That quote from Ellery literally says that [paraphrased] *The United keeper held the ball for 4.8 seconds and the not United keeper held it longer so we HAVE to do something about it".

As if a rule change will somehow revive them.

Our defence has in part led to the suffering of Martinez not ranking in top 10/11 of Keepers for so many metrics .

Following the Brazilian's breathtaking performance in Paris, have your say on whether Liverpool's No 1 is the best in the division ?

The article was headlined asking if Alison the best goalkeeper in the league . Much to my surprise Emi Martinez wasn’t even mentioned at all

The conclusion they came to I feel is false:
“Sels, Ederson and  Vicario can all stake a claim as the Premier League's best goalkeeper right now”

Seems fair, Emi has been below his standards from the last 2 seasons this year, he's still a world class keeper but no one can play to the level he did without some drop off. I'm sure we'll see him at his best again before long.

Just by not missing so many games he has been considerably better than Vicario

Ederson has spent quite a bit of the season on the bench hasn't he?

So has Vicario plus he has been letting them in when playing. They just wanted the Spurs vote in to make up for missing the Manure one because there was no way they could justify putting Onana in that list without it being obviously a sky six ploy.

Raya has probably been the best in the PL season.
