Someone mentioned it in one of the other threads, but I don't like Martinez as captain with McGinn off field for an extended period of time. Not sure who should get it though. But being as players other then captains can be booked for asking a ref about decisions, we need an outfield player to be able to do that as Martinez can't really sprint up the field to get in the refs ear.

I think it may have been the Young Boys game whereby their captain was the keeper and as they were doing the coin toss he appeared to gesticulate that a particular outfield player would be the one to approach the ref on behalf of the captain.

An outfield player is assigned like you state, so it's not an issue.

Make Onana captain, he can speak that many languages he'll be able to converse with anyone.

He doesn't speak Scottish but it won't matter with McGinn out atm.

Onana needs to earn the right to be captain.

Could have been useful though, to confuse Kane.

English is usually enough to do that.

I have a lot of respect for Sweeper Keeper Manuel Neuer who was for a time the best goalkeeper in the world - Now it's Emi Martinez.
Imagine saying a few years ago we'll play Bayern Munich in Champions League with our goal keeper being better than  Manuel Neuer!

Go Emi!

Quote
Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez speaking to TNT Sports: "It's unreal to be fair. This is the loudest Villa Park that I've heard since I joined the club, that's for sure, it was hurting my ears at some point. It's a club that is moving forward. It's the main reason why I stay in this football club. I love playing here, I love the fans, this is a win for them."

On Harry Kane: "You know with Harry Kane, you know that he's always going to hit on target at some point in the game so I've working a lot with moving and making saves."

On defence: "We are committed [more] defensively Champions League, we need to transmit that into the Premier League now, we are conceding some sloppy goals in the Premier League, we need to find that balance, we know we can keep clean sheets so we move on from here."

On Jhon Duran: "He came back with a different mentality this season. He's willing to work hard, he's pushing Ollie all the way, they can play together he's a super sub, the first time he touched the ball, he lobbed Neuer, one of the best goals in history."

On the result: "It's a statement, there's still a lot to play. We want to qualify in the first eight, in the top eight, it's one step at a time, we've got Bologna at home now in our second game, we are probably more relaxed but we want to win every game."

I thought they were all great, but all the way through, Emi, Torres and Tielemans, looked like they belonged.

He’s immense.

Some vintage gamesmanship at the end when he saw us getting frantic with a perfectly timed injury.

He's the best Villa player in my time (mid 90s onward) and is a Villa legend already.

The logic of Ratboy when he left and yet Emi stays and helps to get us here, and so determined to do it with Villa, legend imo.
