That makes England The Great Satan and Portugal would be, what... El Salvador?

Argentina are Italy.

Not a part of the thought experiment, just a comment.

Me grandmother lived in Canada as a child, and it was apparently full of Scots at the time. I'm not sure why, but imagine it might have something to do with the whole "not banning booze" thing, unlike their ridiculous neighbours.

On certain words the Canadian accent is pretty Scottish sounding.

I was thinking that earlier but "aboot" could just as easily have come from France as Scotland.

It's mostly a mix of French, Irish and Scottish depending where you are.

A Canadian once explained to me that the reason Canadians are so tight (compared to Americans) is that the Scottish mostly went to Canada, and the Irish went to the US. Whatever the reason, East Coast Canadians are pretty parsimonious.

I'd make him captain next season, take some pressure off John.

I have an Irish uncle living in Argentina and he says exactly that - a Spanish speaking country where everything operates as in Italy, only with excess corruption.

Informally part of the British Empire though. All the institutions, exports, football clubs, infrastructure and FDI. Hand of God was our fault really.

We're just back from a long holiday in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and loads of towns are named after Scottish places, and there's a strong 'ceilidh ' culture so the Irish connections are strong too.
A fantastic place to visit anyway.
