Back to Martinez. I think Unai does not have full confidence in him and that's why he often has 2 goalies on the bench!! Martinez is a maverick, likely to be booked or sent off at any time and Unai wants more back up in this specialist position.

Martinez is a great shot stopper, has presence but if his style of play doesn't improve and meet Unai's preferred style, I think we should cash in asap.

Martinez has got 6 yellows this season, 4 last season and 1 the year before that. He's never been sent off to my knowledge, so that reasoning holds about as much water as the "extra keeper needed for pre-match drills" excuse. And again, Emery has only started doing it since we had a squad clear out in January.

6 yellows all could be prevented self inflicted

Sorry, it's 5. One was for Argentina, you know that time he won the World Cup?

Even so, it's not a reason to have a youth keeper on the bench in addition to your normal back up. And aside from that, it's hurt us how exactly? In the 5 games he's been booked for us, we've won 4 of them.

All yellow cards are self-inflicted.  Unless mistaken identity by the gormless bloke with the whistle.

Yes, well, no one will be happy if he manages to accumulate 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches before 33 matches played as Martínez will be suspended.

Ten yellows by then mean a ban.

He'd have to get 5 yellow cards in the next 7 games. It isn't going to happen.

Using Gabbys opinion to try and prove a point. You have officially peaked.
Gabby played the game knows the players , and he nows about premier league player contracts because he been in dressing room his hypothesis on the scenario is strong in this instance as he comes from experience based position.

Yeah, thank God for Gabby or else how would we possibly know that Dougie is on good wages?

Thanks Risso, makes my point exactly.

Since, I say, since the world cup his booking record has gone up massively. Literally, a booking 'waiting' to happen!!

Has he got to big for his boots? Unai might think so, hence, two subs for this one specialist position.

But none of the bookings have affected us in any conceivable way. Certainly not in a way that would suggest having two goalkeepers on the bench is a necessary thing. He's never been sent off or suspended for us.

I thought the love for Footy-Vill was growing but people are punching-down again. The site would be far less entertaining without him, so come on, smile wryly at his observations and move on.

There's always a mate in the pub who's a bit of a character but you don't jump down his throat for everything outlandish he says. You just ask him to get the next round in, soft lad.
I'm with eamonn.  Every so often there seems to be some kind of pile-on with our Footy, I'm not sure it's useful or necessary.  I know some of his opinions/theories are a bit out there - but if you're not allowed a blatantly flawed view of the football club you support, then ...

Agreed.

Except Emery started doing the two goalies on the bench thing before Emi's yellow card count went up, which also coincided with the end of the January transfer window and the fact that we no longer had enough senior players to name a full squad.

I'd offer the opinion that it's verging on the negligent.  Emery, as much as most of us love what he is mainly doing isn't beyond reproach.

Certainly not beyond reproach as the way he treated Sacha Wright and Lucila Vila Segui was distasteful.
He now uses two goalkeepers on the bench. At Arsenal, he had a girlfriend and a backup in England, Sacha Wright.

West Ham have two goalies on the bench tonight.

I have no idea how that's got any relevance to anything football-related. Footy's comment, not the West Ham thing.
