What do people think - I think they should give him a guard of honor or similar!

The achievement is unheard of.  In my lifetime, only a small handful of players have played for villa that were truly world-class - let alone the best in their position.

I can only really think of McGrath and Yorke and maybe Benteke (though only at villa) and maybe Rat Boy

To be far - this is truly remarkable - to have the best goalkeeper in the world in our team is an amazing thing to have.

Well done to him, the club and everyone involved in this.  This can only be a really good thing for everyone involved!
That's what I was thinking.
It's brilliant for him , Villa and so very well deserved!

Deserved? You were saying you thought he should be dropped in 2022.

It's a lot easier to drop down that it is to go up. Major acknowledgement to him for such a superb individual achievement. This part of his charcater is what I like about Emi Martinez and applaud him for it. He's a credit to his profession in that respect.

Well, his dad wants him to leave, but he thinks that Emi is happy where he is. This will run and run.

I reckon it is best just ignored.

Obviously I'll forget saying this and go batshit on the Emi thread if this stuff comes to a head any time soon, but for now, I am at least pretending to be entirely zen about it.

You've entirely ignored what Drummond just pointed out.

Yeah, this is what I'm trying for - let's enjoy the rest of the season with a sense of optimism.  Plenty of time to rewrite it all in the summer

I just watched Central TV and not a single mention of the World's best goalkeeper winning his award and playing for the biggest team in the Midlands! That's appalling.....

By the same token I was listening to the radio earlier and not one mention. They mentioned the managerial awards and Messi, albeit I think it was on national radio, seems as though Martinez plays for an English team I would have considered that reason enough for it to be newsworthy in the sports section.

They could have at least got Mbappe to present him with the award.

Yorke, Benteke and Grealish were not close to world class unfortunately.

Yorke was miles better for us than Martinez has been, up to now. I love Martinez, and I'm really pleased for him, but winning the World Cup doesn't make him the best keeper in the world, any more than it would have made Harry Maguire the best central defender in Europe if we'd beaten Italy in the Euros.
