Right now as good as he is, Emi isn’t enough to stop what is poor defensive discipline in front of him. I’d sooner we became a solid defensive outfit like the path Newcastle has taken than being so open. Martinez makes a much bigger difference then.

He can't be absolved from the defensive indiscipline himself though.

No, he’s accountable too. But however good a keeper is he’s going to be exposed by the approach we take defensively as a team. He’s made mistakes also. Can’t deny that.

I still don’t think you’re right - even if the manager doesn’t have goalkeepers go up for corners. That’s an odd quirk of the manager, but it’s a perfectly reasonable risk based decision to take in the 97th minute when you have a corner and you’re losing.

I don't actually think it is a reasonable risk based decision because, actually, the chances of a goalkeeper scoring or actually helping the scoring of a goal from a corner are so low.  In fact, the more likely scenario is that even if the ball does come anywhere near him, the goalkeeper coming up into the box will just get in the way of his own players in his desperation to be involved.

I don't know, it's still an extra player in the box and one the opposition wouldn't have any plans at all to mark during the game so if his presence had meant Dendoncker or Mings had a free header it would've been worth it.

Says it all the corner was overhit anyway. We've got McPhee doing this job and yet we looked as unthreatening from set pieces as ever.

Watching Everton-Leeds and Tarkowski is getting on the end of all of their set pieces so we really should be doing better in that area.

Not that I want rid of Emi, far from it but I have been impressed with the Boro keeper, Zack Steffen who's on loan from Man City. Worth keeping an eye on.

Matt Turner is far better than him hence him being US number one at World cup.

This will be the trouble though if/when he goes. We're reactive and will be scrabbling around for a keeper with completely different profile. Sides like brentford and Brighton probably already put the data research in and have replacements identified if Raya and Sanchez leave.

If arsenal or the rest time waste, it's okay but as soon as we perfected it,oh no we can't have this

Did he not get the go-ahead to go forward then?

Now he knows. Which to me means it was unclear before. He may well have never told the keeper to go up for corners but he may never have said don't go up for corners  either. Maybe it's something that's never come up in conversation.

Yes thats why Emery said never and called it embarrassing, but think what you want.
Well I think we all know Martinez made it personal due to his feelings as it was Arsenal. And now we know the truth I don't need to debate or discuss it anymore as its ultra clear and disappointing. Embarrassing as Emery said and you can see the anger in Unai

Running the clock down is part of the game. has been for years. If the outfield players were better at it then maybe we would get a point today. I can think of Bailey dribbling and shooting over the bar. Why not go to the corner flag or or play backwards?
If you have class players you can play football. If you don't you must use the guerilla tactics.

Martinez clearly has a grudge against Arsenal and he's had a mare against them more than once now.  He needs to leave his grievances at the door though and not take them onto the field.
