The fact he’s made the trip and is on the bench does seem ridiculous.

I think it may now be fair to say that the relationship between Emery and Martinez is probably not an entirely comfortable one. Doesn't bode well, going forward after today.

A very odd decision by Emery.

Is his relationship with Cash and Dendoncker an uncomfortable one aswell?

A very small part of me is concerned that Olsen is genuinely our number one keeper now.

Young and Doug starting over those two isn't much of a drop in quality in that position, it's an absolute chasm between Olsen and Emi. And not just in ability but also the confidence instilled in the defence.

I don’t agree with it, but at least he’s being consistent.  My guess is that non-world cup players are being preferred until the others are up to speed with his tactic and expectations.

I look at Emery's CV and I back him 100%. Either Martinez isn't fully 'right' or something else has occurred which justifies the decision.

Agreed. I’m happy we’ve got a coach who’s proven he knows what he’s doing.

Oh I agree 100% with that, I just don't see it as  Emery having a problem with Martinez as the original point suggested. For whatever reason Emery has decided to not bring any of the World Cup players straight back in.

Cash and Dendoncker are left out for players who have shown themselves worth a place in the team, and/or left out for legitimate tactical reasons, whereas Martinez has been left out for someone (Olsen) who over the course of a few games now has shown himself to be clearly not up to scratch, and a liability.  Given all the circumstances, it's pretty clear that something isn't well here, or that something's not gone right that will need addressing.

That’s fair enough but the World Cup players, particularly Emi, are not going to suddenly get it in the 2/3 days training before the Wolves game. If he’s not in goal for that game then there’s probably going to be a meltdown.

And there, possibly, is why Emi’s on the bench. Lloris fumbled a routine save and we’re on top. Fabulous

I'm pretty sure Emery said 'that was the plan' when asked about this pre-match, which makes me think he told all the WC players that they'd be given a bit of time to settle back in and would be in the frame to start vs wolves.

For me, if that's what happened, I can understand the value of being clear ahead of time with his expectations.

I think it's much more likely than some of the wild conspiracy nonsense that's been floating around on twitter and facebook.
