Did you see the amount of people that turned out to see the team...and then over 100,000 in Emi's home town. These guys are thought of as God's and all most in the media is slightly them off.

I hope he is having the time of his life and our club embraces him for as long as he needs. Imagine our players, especially Buendia, when he rocks up to training with that medal around his neck. It is the highest honour that most players can only dream about to be part of the team, I.agine being directly responsible for winning it, not in a single game but over several.

Fuck me I'm proud of him and that he is with our team

I'm not sure how reliable this Spanish site is, but it suggests that Emery doesn't see eye to eye with Martínez and that there were some run ins even before the World Cup. If so, it would have been odd to have fallen out so quickly.

If this it to be believed, he wants to sell Emi and get in Bono.

After Grealish when I’d read all the theories on here and elsewhere and had convinced myself that he loved Villa and was staying only to realise that he’d been muscling for a move for ages I’m not going to be taken in again

What will be will be and we can do nothing about it, so just enjoy what we got while we got it

Indeed.

I reckon Martinez is grateful to the Villa for the chance to establish himself as no 1 for club and country.

But if we don't make suitable progress on the pitch that gratitude won't extend to wasting 4 to 5 years with us in midtable or lower.

he'll be grateful - but he'll be gone when the right offer comes in.

The "right offer" would probably be £60 million+. Who is going to pay that?

For those who say he's bound to leave because Grealish did, pretty much every non-Villa fan on Earth thought we robbed Man City blind with the fee we got. It's far from guaranteed that anyone gets close to our valuation for Martinez.

So we keep a player against his will to leave. Very rarely ends well.

Who, apart from clickbait journalists and Villa supporters, says he wants to leave?

Do you have an example of a Villa player where it's ended badly? I can think of loads where the fan response has been exactly like yours but every player I can think of in the last 20-30 years who wanted to go and then didn't, for whatever reason, either carried on playing and was professional enough to get on with it or was Alpay. Barry was professional, Benteke was professional, Luiz has bene professional, fuck even Grealish got on with things after looking like he was going twice before he actually left.

Players downing tools after failing to get a move is a bit of a myth really, for every Odemwingie or Ronaldo there are a hundred players who realise throwing a toddler like strop and/or refusing to play doesn't work out for anyone.

Martinez wants to be number 1 for club and country, if we don't let him leave that will still be his goal so he'll just get on with it. That's why him being on a long contract gives us a lot more say in matters. Given when he got a new deal I can understand he might have a clause but if he does it will reflect the fact that he was Arginetine number 1, had a copa america medal in his pocket and had established himself as one of the best keepers in the league, as CD says, it'll be at least £60m, probably plenty on top of that.

As said above - we just need to start being good then maybe we’ll keep our better players.

Can’t see him going in Jan - and maybe with a good coach and investment in Jan we might have a pleasant surprise come the end of the season

We shouldn't be looking at selling Martinez. We should be looking at signing Mbappe.
