With a stonking cover of Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

I endorse this message.

Andrew Weatherall mix for the win.

As much as I love Weatherall, Masters At Work Dub is the one

This would be correct

“He’s coming back next week. I want him to rest now because after big emotion and hard work, he has to have some days off to rest then he’ll come back to work with us.” says Emery in his press conference.

It's Christmas, so...

I was at the Shiine On weekender last month in Minehead, and St Etienne were on straight after Tim Burgess (which incidentally was straight after we watched Villa win at Brighton - a good afternoon), so we thought they might perform this together, however they did not.

Whereas ten Haag has gone the opposite route with his Martinez saying that the player needs to get back for the game on the 27th. I wonder which managers approach will have the best outcome. I’ll put my money on Emery.

Well Ten Hag's man did very little during the world cup and sat on the bench picking the splinters out of his arse in the semi and final so he should have returned last Monday.

Winning the world cup is a once in a lifetime. The fact FIFA stupidly played it at a silly time of the season is not Emi's fault. To expect the team that won the world cup to be in club action less than 10 days later is, in my opinion, short sighted. I'm glad Villa had a stance of a 7-10 day period for the players to come back.

Correct. While the WC provided some great football because it was mid season, the other side of it is that under normal circumstances these players would get time off after the event. And certainly those who end up playing late into the tournament deserve their time let alone the energy and emotion expended to win it. That’s before you get to the events after. We are doing it the right way.

Hope he stays with the Villa long term, but always thought of him pre WC as a good  / very good goalkeeper as opposed to an excellent one. Argentina winning the WC in my opinion has seemingly elevated him to the excellent status where as if they’ve did been knocked out earlier in the comp this elevation would not have materialised. Post WC,my pre WC thoughts remain the same.

I realize we all want him back but the adulation he is getting back home is something he should be allowed to enjoy. It might be a once in lifetime event. And if the club make demands of him to get home it could alienate him. He’s a brilliant pro and soon as he gets back I have no doubt he will be focused and ready to pledge himself to our cause. 150k people showed up in his home town and he’s been given the keys to the city.

I agree. It's a huge deal for him, and he's been working the last six weeks whereas most of our squad have been doing standard training and sleeping in their own beds.

If he returns reluctantly, he won't be in the right frame of mind. His performances for us are what got him there, so we've already had the benefit over the last however many months.

I am club over country 100 times out of 100, but my position is to give him a pass for one game to celebrate what will almost certainly be the highlight of his career.

Totally agree Rory.

Agreed, I don’t have a problem with this. If ultimately we’re let down by not having an adequate deputy for a game or 2 than that sits firmly at the feet of the recruiting team not Emi.

I’d much rather look at the long term opportunity to keep him than have him consider his future due to short term thinking. The league is important. Everyone knows that including him. But what happened to him is life changing. Good management of that will reap rewards

I don't think people need to be quite so precious about him. He's a professional sportsman; and he should be back doing his day job. He's a very good goalie, but he's clearly a bit of a dick* and I don't think he needs his ego massaging too much.

I see Patrick Viera is the latest to have a pop at Emi.  Nothing to do with being French though, eh Patrick?  Bitter bollocks!
