While I do despair at players getting unnecessary bookings (time-wasting, shirt-removing, handbags...), when I saw Martinez time-wasting at the end I felt that the inevitable booking was acceptable, given the need a) for 3 points and b) to send the obnoxious scumbags back to Bedfordshire with a slapped arse and no points.

We were at the back of the Trinity and wondered wtf he was up to. I'm still none the wiser to be honest.

It's stopping the opposition keeper seeing the free kick before it appears above or around the wall. He was making sure De Gea had to stand further to his right than he was comfortable with if he wanted to see the free kick leave the floor.

I mean it worked so I enjoyed it but it's a bit mad if they counter.

I’d guess that with him knowing that Digne was whipping in a shot the end result was going to be Keeper saves, corner. Miss, goal kick or, as it happened, Goal

He was on his way back to his goal before the ball was struck so no risk taken

And yet time wastes and gets a yellow card.
He can't help himself with that.
Nothing wrong with that when we're in the lead.  It's about time we learned proper gamesmanship and shithousery and he has it in spades.  I love that sheer wil to win.

Footy seems to have a real problem with perceived I’ll discipline. He has the same obsession with McGinn and to a lesser extent Mings and previously with Jack.  It is for a good reason as he does not want to see players suspended but has to realise that bookings are part the game and mostly at the whim of the ref on duty.  Yesterday the ref had already decided as he was waiting on the edge of the area when Emi had just collected the ball.  Normally the warning comes from near halfway line.

One incident yesterday near the end of the game made a few of us chuckle in the Holte Lower.  Emi was doing his usual ‘game management’/time wasting or shit housery which is the new appropriate phrase. The ball had gone out for a goal kick and one of the ball boys immediately gave it back to Emi. He wasn’t happy, in fact he was quite unhappy and made his feelings quite clear and in no uncertain terms to said ball boy.

Yes very funny.  Another time a member of the crowd chucked it over is head and Emi looked at the ref shrugging his shoulders as if to say 'what can I do?'  Great stuff

De Gea and other United players must have been wondering wtf he was doing, like everyone else. Made me laugh seeing the clip above.

Full disclosure here  -  I love him!

After his theatrics last year with the Fernandes/ Ronaldo penalty caper, I didn't think he could come-up with another routine to fck them up again; how wrong I was.

Personally, I've never seen anything like what he did on Sunday.

The game is only 10 minutes old, we're 1-0 up with a free-kick on the edge of their box.
Where's our keeper?
Half-way line, over by the touchline, orchestrating & lining the thing up. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Happy to say it baffled the opposition as much as it did me.

He was brilliant yesterday, I especially like the way he comes and catches the ball rather than punch it away totally dominating the six yard box.

Quite a bit about Emi in this where Neil Cutler discusses yesterday's game with Ben Foster. First 19 mins is mainly Villa chat covering McPhee and JJ as well as the match. Some interesting stuff including a section about why we might see some more goals from free kicks in the PL.
