Fair enough, found the actual rule:

"A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when:
the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms, except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save
holding the ball in the outstretched open hand
bouncing it on the ground or throwing it in the air
A goalkeeper cannot be challenged by an opponent when in control of the ball with the hand(s)."

I get the urge of representing your country but you really wanna risk dangering yourself by going to a red country?

Its also unfair on our club we pay the wages and now they will moss 3 games

It's probably more of a health risk for them to be in the UK to be honest. The UK's infection rate is 4x that of Argentina, and climbing, and the UK is in the same risk category as Argentina, for Germany at least.

In terms of risk to themselves, this is actually a very good point. Argentina on ‘red’ list, is this Governments red list. The UK have had one of the worst infection rates in the world.
The issue really then is club vrs country, with the added factor of isolating and missing more games than normal. I think the two Emi’s are in a difficult position given they’ve just broken into the team as the number one, in Martinez’s case, and broken into the squad in buendias case.
However, given the problems we’ve had with players out, to knowingly ignore your clubs request to not go, is a bit concerning and adds another layer to our already fragmented start to the season.

As far as I'm concerned he can go. The reason he came to the Villa was to progress his career and give himself a chance at the Argentina No. 1 shirt. If we start telling him he can't have it, when he's just got, it seems off. I know that's not in our immediate interests results wise but it is in terms of team morale and supporting our players to achieve their goals.

I'd much rather the Premier League managed to make an agreement with the National sides, for either the players not to go or for the national sides to agree with FIFA and/or CONCACAF that games (international or club) be postponed.

I'd let him go ad well. To be honest, I've been far from impressed with his start to the season and playing a couple of games, getting some clean sheets and just being calm will do him some good. I also think it will do steer some good but if he comes on and does well he absolutely must keep the shirt until its starts going wrong.

Am I right to assume all Villa players are vaccinated? I read something last week about not all footballers were but I would hope Villa at least have our squad protected.

Why was their goal ruled out from the attempted clearance? I know you can’t kick a ball out of the goalie’s hands, but Emi had totally let go of it.

He’s still deemed to be in possession throughout the kicking process

Nothing's been said, but as it's individual choice, I don't think you'd be right to make that assumption.

Yeah, there's been a number of articles lately about the challenges of getting footballers (and other athletes) vaccinated.

Now, the only three clubs that have gone public with their vaccination rates have quoted great numbers. I suspect, though, many other clubs won't share the data because the numbers would cause alarm.

DS said last week that he encouraged our players to get the vaccine, but that you can't force them if they don't want to.

Unless it's a Man c player who's coming from 20 yds offside!!

Now can you find one about release clauses?

It's an Argentinean thing I would suspect.
