They have time to talk to medical advisers, the club, other players, their FA, etc.
They are not alone in this choice.

It must be a very difficult decision if you know you are OK and your national team are saying it’s OK - and that the travel and playing arrangements are completely different from tourist travel with dedicated bubbles, etc.

I would be checking what is planned for the national team in Argentina with assured sealed travel, training, accommodation and changing / playing arrangements at different venues. And returning, of course.

He shouldn't go. We pay his wages.

TBH the only problem I can see is the current Covid practice in the clubs the other players/staff might have come from, and that is down to the FA concerned to have secured.
If they haven’t...

I get the urge of representing your country but you really wanna risk dangering yourself by going to a red country?

Its also unfair on our club we pay the wages and now they will moss 3 games

Argentina is Red so I would expect a professional player to check all the covid parameters and not go there...

If a player insisted on going, then somewhere, somehow, someone is giving them completely crap information about their personal safety...

Edit
He and Buendia have been allowed to go for 2 matches, so I have edited this post which was OTT re consequences but isn’t as entertaining given the reality.

Why was their goal ruled out from the attempted clearance? I know you can’t kick a ball out of the goalie’s hands, but Emi had totally let go of it.

I think he was still deemed to be 'in control' of the ball so the challenge was penalised as dangerous play. I thought Emi was a bit lucky because he seemed to have released the ball too far in front of himself from my vantage point in the Upper Holte.

I'd be very pissed off with that, If I supported Brentford.

With regards to international games.
As frustrating as it is, it's their choice.

it depends what club you want to be. Guardiola let messi play for Argentina u21 when the club knew he would be away and miss a few games. He Gave David Silva 2 months off when his baby was sick. Both said they would always be grateful.

The rules have actually been like that for years. I just so happened to watch some YouTube videos of Ronaldinho that came up on my suggested list, and he did something similar and ended up being booked for it. I think it’s also deemed and considered to be unsportsmanlike conduct in modern day football, however it now falls under the umbrella of “being in control of the ball” and a goalkeeper does need to let go of the ball when kicking it out of his hands so he still in control of it despite letting go of the ball (ie a controlled and intended process of releasing the ball in order to kick it).

It's not a new thing. George Best had one ruled out, iirc. If it wasn't illegal, do you not think you'd see it all the time? If you can't even simply stand in front of them and block a kick, you're hardly going to be fine sticking a boot in there as he's in the act of clearing it.

It's probably more of a health risk for them to be in the UK to be honest. The UK's infection rate is 4x that of Argentina, and climbing, and the UK is in the same risk category as Argentina, for Germany at least.
