With the resources of entire countries behind them, some clubs may still be able to muster the monies.

Time for creative thinking.

So people are aware before hand. In a few weeks Martinez, Buendia, Douglas Luiz will be playing 3 international matches in a week with the last of their matches at Argentina 1230am and Brazil 130am Friday
So they won't be playing Vs Chelsea next day Saturday!
Plus the quarantine rules of red list means 10 days isolation so not playing Vs Everton on 18th if I'm right ?
Factor in also Bailey on quarantine rules red list

Maybe not, there's been some talk of Luiz not being called up for these games to give him a bit of a break.

I can't believe he was arguing with the referee after the penalty was given - it was poor goalkeeping - he took Wilson out.

Absolute ridiculous…no idea what he was thinking doing what he did. We got away with that one and he’s lucky not to have been sent off. On the flip side, I don’t understand why the yellow card stands if the foul and subsequent penalty doesn’t. It would have been even worse if he’d have received a red as I presume that couldn’t be rescinded either. Doesn’t make sense.

Reminded me of Bosnich on Klinsmann a bit they way he flew into Wilson.

Thought we got a bit lucky there. Wilson's foot was probably 5cm ahead of last defender but was under the impression those close offsides wouldn't be called this season. No doubt Watkins will have one of those chalked off once he gets back.

Would've been very annoyed if we'd lost a penalty from that situation, actually thought at first the check was on whether it was serious foul play and a red card.

I don't think it was as close as that, looked a good 6 inches offside to me, certainly enough that the lino should've flagged.

The referee gave the correct decision in the penalty no doubt, the card was justified and could have been worse.  The fact that VAR called it back on this occasion is not because the referee made a mistake.  VAR did what we all want it to do and that is to ensure that the correct decison was arrived at.  Whatever the outcome, the foul was definitely a card, the fact that the incident was changed should make no difference at all, a foul is a foul.  No complaints about it standing from me.

but if the lino had flagged instead of letting it go to be checked by VAR the incident would never have happened.

Not sure that that's the case Paul, it all happened quickly but looked to me like one of those where both the keeper and attacker were fully commited to a course of action that wasn't going to be stopped by a lino's flag.

Maybe but have you ever seen a yellow for 2 players running into each other after the whistle has gone? For me he was far enough offside that you'd expect the lino to see it, especially given him, mings and konsa were all running in the same direction.

Have to say if those decisions were against us I would have been fuming, but remember if they would have got the pen no guarantee they would have scored.

For once I thought VAR was very good on both those incidents. On the second view that was as blatant a penalty you will see. Also when they showed the re-run of the offside before Martinez’s terrible challenge you could see he was offside before the line was drawn.

At the time, from the Holte End, I assumed the VAR was checking if it was in the box or not.

How nice for it to go with us for a change. Much laughter at the Newcastle fans at that point!
