Whilst Emery might never have been convinced by Martinez, perhaps his monumental error at Old Trafford may have been the final nail.

I just don't see why players are so desperate to sign for United.

Whether we like it or not in South America Man United would be seen as one of the European Giants up there with Real Madrid and Barcelona

Also, whether we like it or not Man United won’t always be rubbish
At some point they will get it right again because of their resources and worldwide pull, players with super confidence like Martinez will think going there they can achieve that

Honestly, there’s no one on this site hates Man Utd more than I do not even hookey, but I’m not blinded to the facts and the reason players want to go there
Actually makes me hate them even more, but there you go

Plus they still get to finals and win trophies when they’re shit.

The bastards.

Reminds me a bit of when Sunderland fans were astonished that Darren Bent would leave sixth placed Sunderland the moment that bottom-half Aston Villa clicked their fingers.

Entirely, painfully, correct.

It look Liverpool a long time to get back to the top, Man United are thankfully well into that cycle. Nearly every signing and transfer window makes them worse. Loads of false dawns. Amorim is a bad start away from being fired.

My sentiments exactly.
Regarding Martinez, I've become convinced by the arguments here that it might be a good time to cash in. I wonder whether Noocassel might admit that Pope is shite and that our Emi would be a good replacement ... just a thought.
Ideally, he would join his mate, Lionel, at Miami for a sizeable pay cheque.

Word is that they want to move Pope on and replace him with James Trafford but it's being hampered by Pope's refusal to go anywhere.

If I were a top class player, you couldn't pay me enough to move from Ferro Carril Oeste to River Plate or Boca.

If Martinez goes to Man Utd, it’s just for the cash. They aren’t going anywhere any time soon and aren’t even in Europe next season.

It will be more than just about cash.  If his family are settled in the UK, that will play a part too.

But then stay at Villa, no?

A lot of the time, cashing in at the right time often seems wrong at that moment.

I feel weirdly OK about it all but that's because I trust Unai and I know the club will do as much as they can to reinvest any money into getting a top replacement.

Our best ever keeper , be a shame if he moves there as it will blot his copy book with us.

But they will likely finish well above us next season if we sell them Martinez.
