We have to box smartly, a lot smarter in fact than most. We certainly won't miss last seasons Emi, the questions become; (i) will we get the Emi we've known before back? (ii) If we do, for how long? (iii) will we get better maximal value from his sale at any other point? (iv) if we don't move for a other keeper now, like the lad at Lille, will we have the funds to do it again?

Chevallier might not be as good as Emi at his peak, but he's clearly no mug and has just as higher ceiling to be world number 1, being French, and for considerably longer.

Yup - there’s cost and whether Emi is going to start on the decline now and whether last year was the start or just a mixed season. If we sell it’ll be a calculated gamble, but there’s no certainty either way.

I’m pretty sure it’s been said on here that every player knows the price to sell them.  Emi will be no different.  It’s entirely his call if he wants to leave but certainly not for anything below our valuation of him.

I dont disagree with any of that - but I guess what I mean is class is permenent, form is temporary.  There some big gloves to fill and I just dont want us to underestimate that.

He could easily be a world class GK for the next 4 years, and if all goes well they could be 4 of the best years in the club history.

All of the above is correct. I think most could stomach Emi leaving for a new challenge to a top club so he can win things we can’t quite offer him immediately. And certainly with respect to needing to address our financial challenges domestically and with UEFA. But it’s going to those ****** that makes it hard. If indeed it’s true. Go to Spain, France, Germany, Italy etc. Just not to them.
