No, it was reignited by someone having a laugh with the whole “assists don’t count” thing. Then there’s an option of ignoring, holding your hands up and admitting you were wrong or doubling down.

Because I never even said that. That started because I criticised his lack of goalscoring and people had to keep including assists. I've never said assists don't 'count' full stop.

Also I ignored the first post about me, saying would I still sell him.

But if people are going to continue to do it then I should be allowed to reply, no?

And I'm never wrong  8)

No it didn't, it started because your obsession with him not scoring enough goals led to you regularly posting how we needed someone better, which is why people started mentioning assists and all round play because in the bid to get a handful more goals you risk losing all of that and that it's probably not a good trade off. Instead of ever trying to accept that you've just droned on and on about goals as if you're the only person on the forum that understands some fundamental truth. We ALL get it, we just think your argument is over-simplified to the point of being meaningless.

Assists don’t count, except when they do sometimes, but then again, not really. But mostly not if Watkins gets them, cos he’s shit.

No.

Assists were brought into it to deflect from his poor goal return.

I was interested so I checked Ollie's average number of league goals per season. It comes out at 15.17 - the best for a Villa player on the Premier League era. Christian Benteke came next with exactly 14.

All comps Benteke was almost a 1 in 2 game goalscorer, 49 goals in 101 appearances in a team that finished 15th, 15th and 17th in his three glorious seasons with us.

If goals are the only currency then here's the top 10 most league goals in Europe over the last 3 seasons.

1 Harry Kane 98
2 Kylian Mbappe 83
3 Erling Haaland 76
4 Serhou Guirassy 66
5 Robert Lewandowski 60
6 Alexander Sorloth 56
7 Ante Bundemir 55
8 Mo Salah 54
9 Lautaro Martinez 53
10 Ollie Watkins 51

Where’d that from? I think that pretty much puts the goal return point to bed if true.

I’m pretty tired of people moaning about Ollie and his value to us.

He has been an excellent player, has contributed massively to where we are now and we are a better team with him in it.

A thing about that list is the lack of young players. Apart from the Yorkshire bloke and, at a push, M-Bap they're all getting up there football age

It’s just mad. No offence like.

Over a course of a season he's never had a poor goal return. He's had dips in form, but who hasn't? So therefore your argument doesn't stand up.

Think he's always hit at least 10 Premier League goals for us.

Yes. His fewest is 11 in 2021/22.
