He's paid loads as it is, we'd have to pay even more because of the tax breaks players get in Turkey. It would be a stupid signing.

Yeah let's not do anything stupid like sign an actual world class player 😂 ffs

That's disingenuous, though, you know he's saying it's stupid because of the finances. We'd all want world class players but know full well we're not in a position to without sanctions or limiting what we do elsewhere. Strange to cry laugh at it, it wasn't that funny.

It's just a good job we already have a world-class player in Watkins!

A propos of nothing much, but something that always interests me. I notice that Ollie always seems to wave to someone in particular up in the stands at the end of a home match. Just wondering who that might be. Idle curiosity is all...

His family has a box in the North Stand.

We're talking on another thread how we may sell Martinez to save a few million a year because of financial restrictions. On no planet is spending £100m on a transfer and over 300k a week in wages anything but stupid.

It was on the assumption we'd have a way to work the finances out hence why I said we'd need a clear out.

You just like to stalk me and hop on anything I post to go "ackshually".

Oh the irony!  8)

I thought i'd throw some further love Ollie's way as well, he was tremendous. He reminded me of little Gizmo from.Gremlins with that bandage on.

Yes it's called budgeting.

If there are any other world class players pissing their careers away in shit leagues like the Turkish league then we should go for them too.

And our budgeting will not involve paying players £300,000 per week.

Players like Watkins definitely not.

Exactly in case anyone has forgotten we failed SCR and are under UEFA sanction with a commitment to get compliant in our monitoring period.

It would be more than that to match his Turkish wages. There is no way any club is putting its financial future on one player. Even if he did well it wouldn't make up the cost. Other players would want wage parity, you'd have to pull the costs from other positions and weaken your squad. And what if you're tied into all that and then he doesn't settle, doesn't adapt to the league or gets a Wesley/Heaton/Kozak challange and his career is fucked.

We all want better better players but going all in on one player isn't how you build a sustainable squad.

Gonçalo Ramos is on a base salary of £92k at PSG. I would have hoped after Coutinho we're not going to pay stupid salaries on long term contracts.

Yep, I would be looking at him ahead of Oshimen. But the worry will always be will any player bring as much to the way we play like Watkins and can they play in the harder Premier League.

Good question, who will bring more to the team?

Osimhen - 71 goals in his last 100 games

Watkins - 33 goals in his last 105 games

It's a tough one!

Not quite the same level of opposition though, is there?

Listen, I do like me some Osimhen, he's really got something, and I particularly loved watching him and Kvaratskhelia rip Juve to shreds in the now-defunct Inishark pub off Santa Maria Formosa, a thrashing so thorough that several plastic juventini left the bar in disgust.

I'm not sure the finances would work out, I'm not sure the upgrade on Ollie would be as clear-cut as all that, I worry about his fitness long-term.
