The previous time we won the league Gordon Cowans had a poor season even by his own admission. Yet Rob Saunders kept him in the team because he knew that keeping them all together was more important than individual performance.

Yeah, but goalkeepers don't score as many as strikers.

Frank LeBoeuf on the ESPN said we were 'playing with ten men' so off it did he think Watkins was.

So...

Congrats to 'Smirker' on the TV gig!

He is just not at it at the moment .  A couple of times yesterday their centre half took him off the ball far too easily like he didn't have the strength to compete

I hope he can get through this and is an absolute fantastic pro

I’d say you have to be good at the day job to be a fantastic pro.

That's the sort of thing to say after a player's been off for three weeks, not half a season! And I still don't see why he should still be cut any slack now because of his past glories... But I obviously hope he can get through whatever it is as well.

Well depends how you look at it I suppose. A consistently good, all round, forward for consecutive years is now having a run where he’s struggling. He’s been really good for us for a lot longer than he’s struggled, so it suggests something has happened now that’s impacted him. An underlying injury has been mentioned by Tuchel and Emery I think, so it’s probably that. But you don’t have years of consistent success if you’re not a good pro.

Oh no, I'm not suggesting he's been taking attitude lessons from Stephen Ireland! You can tell he's trying, it's just that this "run where he's struggling" seems a comparatively long one. It's all relative I suppose.

It has been going on long enough to be deemed regression and we should plan on replacing until he proves otherwise.

Will go down as one of our best centre forwards in the last 30 years, but you sit on this stuff and before you know it you have Rudy Gestede up top and you're on 2 points after 17 games.
