Has he got his Mrs up the duff again as that seems to have coincided with a couple of runs of poor form since he’s been here?

It's probably the most sane excuse for his current form. There should have been a clause in his last improved contract that he has the snip.

He'd have taken his toe off instead. But his waiting room game, never seen anything like it.

if Watkins was that good, we wouldn't be having that debate, as his performances and stats would shut everyone up. Right?

Apart from maybe Kamara there have been debates about virtually every player

Kamara's a spoofer and a nincompoop and I'm better than he is.

You just need to look at how much was spent on strikers this season by everyone else and the returns from them to see that when Watkins was at his best, he was irreplaceable.

Weird that nobody wanted to spend it on him.

Were we selling him or telling them no?

No, I agree fully with that assessment so you can't give me to SE.

Watkins was good enough for mid table/top 7. He isn't good enough if we want to go further.

I thought he was good enough for top 4 being as we got top 4 with him and just missed out again with him playing a role again.

Both or neither.

Watkins is the main man (apart from when we have someone better) for a team that's bottled every big definitive game it's played. He is more of the same, and it feels like most of us are happy with that.

McGinn also played in all those big matches we "bottled". So I think he should go as well.

Good for you. I don't think you have the gotcha you think you do.

He's bottled it at Villa as much as anyone by your logic.

I love how people separate Watkins out - as others have said, if we’re bottlers (we’re not) then all the people who aren’t fashionable to criticise too are. Also to be honest a Euros semi-final last minute for England is pretty high pressure, he did ok there.

It’s weird how people develop irrational dislike for some players. Is he the best finisher you can find? No. Has he been consistently one of the best forwards in the Premier League in the last 5 years? Yes.
