The other question is at what point is it better for Villa that he leaves.

Two seasons ago.

Yeah, I hated qualifying for the Champions League.

Yes, I enjoyed that one goal against Celtic.

That was last season. In any case, he didn't just play in one competition. If we had got rid two years ago we most likely wouldn't have been playing Celtic.

Two seasons ago he was about to have a 27 goal season as we qualified for the CL.

Indeed. We could've got decent money for him.

So we should have sold him before he scored 27 goals and we qualified for the CL?

Yep. It's a mad take. I don't think SE is a reliable narrator when it comes to Ollie. Elliot's views on the Israel/Palestine Debate are more reliable. 😉

Yes it’s a daft take - not all value is how much you can sell a player for.

It's not completely mad, tbf. I don't want to come across as even more of an arse than usual. We could have sold Ollie two years ago, bought someone even better with they money and still qualified for the Champions League and perhaps even done better.

It just seems to me, on the balance of probabilities, to be unlikely at best.

I think I agree that Watkins has probably played his best football for us now (and I say that as his Mom) but I still don’t think there’s been a right time to sell him.

You could make a semi plausible case that with hindsight a good time to sell would have been last summer, but 2 summers ago is so bonkers it thinks about being sensible before becoming King Bonkers, ruler of Bonkersville on the planet Bonkertron.
