So you're saying he's still better than everyone except Salah, Haaland, Kane, Aguero, and Son in his prime?

Read the first bit again.

He isn't better than Isak or Gyokeres but they haven't been here for five years to rack up the games. That will be the case for others too.

He's about the level of Yakubu.

Only reason Ollie's numbers look good is that so many other players aren't as good as him, which refelects badly on Ollie.

Or haven't had the chance to play that amount of games for multiple reasons.

You are the one moving the goalposts now.

Who else should we have had then? You talk like there are are loads of options. You've said he had one good season. You've said it's only about goals. Yet you just keep changing the criteria you're working to.

How have I changed the criteria? It is about goals. Do you think a striker that's been here for one season should have scored more than someone who has five seasons of appearances? Use your head please.

You're picking players who've had a season or so of success rather than one who's consistently been in the top few of the scoring charts for us for 5 years.

Read the first bit again.

Absolutely not.

Mate, I honestly recommend a really long lie down, and whatever drugs it takes to make you less of a monomaniacal bore.

In his time at Villa he has a goal scoring record of a goal every 2.5 games or so - that is good.

You then add the assists, and his record as a forward is top end. Only the absolute elite are above him.

Only because all the better players keep getting relegated, or not picked at all.

Don't talk to me like I'm Footy. Disagree with my opinion but don't think you're gonna try and bully me off here.

Or haven't been in the league as long. Or have left. There is no need to move the goalposts.

Do you know when you hear something along the lines of 'the left nowadays are pushing me to be right wing with how they're acting'? That's what Smirker is doing with me! I'm going to be a Watkins super fan soon when really I've always been sceptical, like SE he doesn't pass my mythical "eye test". What I can't deny though is his record, and there have been simply very few with better in the last 5 years.

I've always hated his first touch though, the waster...

I don't. He was great for us in the Championship but he's only had a couple of decent seasons in top flight football. Actually, you're probably taking the piss...? I can't tell nowadays!

I miss Tammy.

He was very effective for us back then.

The fox in the box days are done, though, when you have players like Haaland and Salah as opponents.

Not sure Haaland is the best example, though. He'll have games where he has barely touched the ball and score twice. Tammy is a level below Ollie anyway, just look at his record. I'm also guessing he's been injured a lot.

I respect your opinion, Smirker, and you're entitled to it, but the glee with which you try to take every opportunity to be proven 'right' is grating.

If Watkins never scores another goal for us again and we end up selling him to Scunthorpe, nobody is going to give you a medal or build a statue of you. They'll just think of you as somebody who was happy when Villa were struggling because it gave you further evidence against a player you already disliked.

Maybe give it a rest for a bit and stick to the overall performances of the team rather than one man?

Yeah, it just feels a little too 'relish-y', whether meant or not.
