The only reason he isn't regarded as a £100m player is because the press don't blow smoke up his arse for playing for one of their 'Big 6'.

Hes been brilliant for us, our top scoring striker in the Premier League era. He'd have also played a lot more for England if it hadn't been for H. Kane.

Those that say we should sell can never say who we should replace him with.
Precisely.
You can’t buy guaranteed 15-25 goals, numerous assists and incredible workrate for £30/£40m.

He’s not perfect, but he’s perfect for us and that’s where his value to Aston Villa lies.

Even if the club were prepared to let him go for the right money earlier in the window I can’t see them letting it happen now

£40m is about right for him tbh. Not saying that's what we should accept, but that's about what I'd expect a buying club to offer.

We're not getting £60m and anything above that is laughable.

I agree with the point made about about selling at the start of the window but not now.

Sure.

Plus he’s the best man we can get.

The other thing that’s relevant is he’s an absolutely prime athlete.  He’s got another four or five years at the top level in my view.

Media valuation never comes into it though does it? The club has a figure that they sell for and it’s not based on the opinion of some hack.

Indeed.

Wasn’t DCL valued at £50m plus based on one decent season in the middle of 10 shit ones ?

Watkins has performed consistently for many, many years and it’s what we value him at, not the ‘big 6 sycophants’

Every season Ollie scores consistently, assists consistently, works hard consistently, is available consistently. The pool of players that can match that at PL level is tiny.

they low balled us for Yorke back in the day. we were expecting 20m ended up being around £12m I wouldn't be tempted by any of thier bomb squad either. They've been taking the piss all summer! their bs loan offer for the goalie :-X

£12.6m was a massive amount in 1998.

This reminds me of the Barry nonsense with Liverpool about 15 years ago. We told them the price they shilly-shallied with some player plus cash nonsense and then C115y just paid the fee. As others have said ManYoo can bluster all they like through their media sycophants it’s his value to us that’s important. That’s the price, pay it or fuck off.

I think Man City "just paid the fee" a year later when he was closer to the end of his contract so the price was lower.

If I remember rightly Liverpool offered £18m or at least that is what we wanted but then a year later he was sold for £12m.  I also remember those lovely cuddly Liverpool fans singing 'you can stick your Gareth Barry up your arse.'

The more you step back from this it makes zero sense for us unless it was such a ludicrously big offer that it couldn’t be refused.

We’d have to replace him, which would cost a lot anyway - the chances that replacement brings as much to the team as he does, certainly short-term, is remote.

If they genuinely think £40m is realistic they are delusional, try £90m odd and it’s a conversation.

If Diaz Cunha Mbeuno is / are the benchmark then £90m is the price.
