Great result, despite the daft goal we gave away.

Makes the home leg very tasty indeed. Bet the ticket website's crashing all the time.

Brilliant rearguard performance by the lads.  Luiz has now cost us three goals losing possession.  Nakamba dreadful in the first half but I thought he improved but agree not quite good enough yet.

How embarrassing are those Fcukin clappers?!  I almost prefer the SHA fans using them as weapons against us!

The main contribution the kid made was to run around a lot, a bit like an irritating fly to Leicester’s defenders, which was probably enough to at least annoy them at that stage in the game.

Don’t think you have to be mystic meg to work out Kodja not sick and it’s highly unlikely he’ll play for Villa again, thanks for the one good season Kodj and goodnight!

Taylor defended well tonight, but cannot cross a ball to save his life. It’s a tricky one with this system as I think Targett has got a really good final ball, just not sure he can huff his way back up the field when the shape reverts to a 5 man defence.

Anyway whatever the result against Man City, two huge games after v Brighton and Watford before the next semi final,  could be season defining few weeks if we get another forward in as well.

Perhaps we could play them both and sacrifice one of the Luiz/Nakamba or AEG/Trez combinations. We'd be adding to the defence and the attack whilst removing 25% of the guaranteed clangers that we will inevitably drop.

dont think I've seen Emile Heskey on as a pundit before but made some good observations at half time and full time I thought. Chilwell and Konsa both caught ball watching at times (Guilbert's goal and Vardy miss in first half) their body position meant they couldnt see the attacking player. Schmeichal not being brave enough for that Konsa chance, was a fairly pathetic effort to punch it clear when you saw the replay. Also credited Villa for finishing strong after conceding the equaliser, dont think Leicester had a sniff of a chance afterwards.

Little Lee thought Nakamba had a great first half!

Nyland really good again, maybe we were all a bit quick to judge him the first half of last season, especially when you look at the "defence" that was in front of him.

I think it serves as a bit of an example of what we'll (hopefully) come to say about Big Wes. It clearly has taken Nyland time to get to grips with English football, which is perfectly understandable - not everyone hits the ground running.

Drinkwater will slot very nicely indeed into this system - hopefully at the expense of Nakamba, who does NOT appear to have settled into the speed of the league yet. Ditto Luiz but I think he's got more quality and we'll see it alongside DD.

Very pleased with the new system and how we defended. If we keep Mings fit and sign a striker, we'll stay up.

Great result, with a weakened team. This formation gives us a lot more stability at the back and makes us harder to beat.
Get a decent striker and winger in and we should see performances get better.
Second leg will be great now, a full Villa Park for one of those special nights.

Just got back so not read the thread. Would have taken 1-1 before the game. Defended resolutely and pity to concede such a stupid goal.
Another great team build up to our goal, similar to Grealish’s at Burnley. I’ve not seen it back but feel Kinsa should have done better from the free kick brilliantly delivered from Jack.
All to play for and hopefully have a better striker option for the 2nd leg.

Nyland was always a good shot stopper but his all round game has improved.

I’ll tell you what. He’s not afraid of taking a high ball in a crowded penalty area. Really, really brave at Burnley and tonight.
Agreed TV.
That is what he has brought into his games since coming back.
He is braver.
Agree, also think he’s muscled up whilst out injured which has helped him come back much stronger and confident , well done lad 👍

Just home, drying out. Thought Nyland and Mings were immense, Luiz has a rick in him every game and Nakamba is a bomb scare. That said, our work rate was absolutely fantastic, and we have given ourselves a chance back at VP which is all we could have asked for. Well done one and all. Great result.

Despite the positivity of tonight’s result, I must comment on how fecking poor Taylor is going forward.
He works hard enough defensively but there were at least 3 times when he was well advanced and for the millionth time showed a complete lack of ability to put the ball in the box.
Every time he feks up it hands the advantage back to the other team and leaves so many of our players out of position.

It’s actually quite a joke now just how ineffective he is.

Nice bloke though.

I normally try to stay away from Westwood-style pile-ons with our players (though not, I must admit, our Geordie wax-faced former manager), but Taylor is nothing short of a disgrace when it comes to attacking. Full-backs are arguably the most important players on the pitch in the modern game and Taylor is practically in breach of contract for 50% of his role.

I’m not having that, he put a great cross over in the first half, probably the best of his Villa career. A ratio of 1:150 isn’t bad!!

As soon as he gets in a promising position you just want him to play the simple ball 10 yards back to keep possession and the impetus is sometimes lost.

The amount of Leicester fans moaning about us parking the bus, they obviously weren't at VP 25/01/2000.
