I would change the team around for this, can’t see Wolves playing many first team players.

Steer
Taylor
Elmo
Hause
Konsa
Lansbury
Hourihane
El Ghazi
Trezeguet
Kodjia
Davis

Have Lansbury and Hourihane in the centre of midfield and then Davis as a target man, let Trez/JK/AEG play across the front and mix it up a bit.

i agree- they’ll probably do similar. I do want us to win a trophy, but I reckon our squad players have an even chance against theirs so hope we put a strong fringe first team out. Last time I went to Villa v Wolves was the season they came up around 2003 or 4 was it? Coppers all along church rd and hardly a wolves fan in site. Massive waste of resources.

We should be fired up for this. Whether that equates to a win or not, I'm not sure.

Play as full strength as possible and go for the cup itself.

I'd give Kodjia a start in place of Trezeguet, he couldn't be any less effective.  Maybe give himself an equally unfitting nickname like 'Ronaldo'.

Is it straight to penalties or is there extra time now?

Was hoping that we'd be excused the pollutant that is VAR and could enjoy a match breathing clean fresh air...but no, VAR applies in the EFL Cup too, I believe.

Wolves to be awarded 2 penalties for non-existent fouls awarded by VAR and Villa fans to spontaneously combust en masse.

Only for Villa to win on penalties in a stadium empty bar 5000 weeping Wolves.

No extra time

Quote
Article 14.4 of the Carabao Cup’s rulebook states: “In the event of the scores being level at the end of ninety minutes’ play in Rounds One, Two, Three, Four and Five no extra time shall be played, and the winners shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with procedures as approved by IFAB.”

The semi-finals will also follow the same format but the Carabao Cup final will observe a period of extra-time should the Wembley showpiece end in a draw.

Article 14.5 reads: “In the Semi-Final ties, if the aggregate score is level at the end of the second game no extra time shall be played and the tie shall be decided by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with procedures as approved by IFAB.

“If the score is level at the end of ninety minutes in the Final Tie an extra half hour shall be played and if the score be still level at the end of extra time the winners of the Competition shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with procedures as approved by IFAB.”

Interesting to see what sort of team Dean will put out. Pretty much changed the whole team every cup game so far and there are players that he will want to give minutes to/keep happy. However, a victory gets us a quarter final place, with a two in seven chance of drawing a team in league one or two, and keeps the winning mentality in the middle of a tricky run of league games.

I suspect he will still probably change the majority of the team while keeping the bench quite strong.

Interesting you'd take out Mings rather than Engels? Would keep Mings in as Jimenez is good in the air, would give Bjorn a breather instead.

Maybe give Hause a game aswell as he'll know their team better and Targett might pull up with all the games he's playing.
